Yeah i sent an email to juan garcia, the amv contest coordinator, and the contest team doing the atlanta contest (presumably the same people) expressing my dismay at what happened. I asked them how can i be expected to do anything but put down kunicon now? And also how can they expect to continue making money if they alienate anime fans. I don't think i'll hold my breath waiting for a response!!

Kunicon is a shining example of how a con can go horrible wrong when its run for the sole purpose of making money. I can vouch for the fact that definately corners were cut at this "con" Kunicon staffers don't realize that the reason the best cons have so many volunteers is that so many people love anime enough, that they get pleasure from seeing other people enjoy anime. Those are the real convention heroes.

Kunicon will never be anything more than a 2nd or 3rd rate con because it has no heart.

Agreed. I got all hyped up since it was in my hometown, but it was pretty crappy overall.

Not even Scott McNeil could save it :P

Gah!

That is the WORST thing I have ever heard of happening at a contest. Complain until your heart is content on their forum.

Oh yeah and since you love your video so much, submit it to acen. I know they run a competent contest. They won't screw up playback 101.

Yeah, The Kunicon(s) have definetly botched 2 for 2 as far as AMV contests go. And I don't think I'll be sending in any more of my works there, unless they actually start shaping up.. but I doubt many of the more reputable editors will actually partake of this con in it's third attempt.

eitherway, have you uploaded your vid to local so we can all watch it yet?

Wow...personally, I've always felt lost running an AMV contest, and luckily, I've had some TREMENDOUS help in the tech area, but I remember staying up all night the night before making sure all the videos played okay...I still had a couple of snags, but it was my first con, and I've learned from it...but these guys make me feel like a seasoned pro!

I've heard many complaints about kunicon...aren't these the same guys that tried to play on Otakon's following by originally naming their con "Otakucon"...bah...strictly for profit cons never work...

I know what you mean about feeling like a pro compared to these guys. We had complete audio equipment breakdown for the replay of the amv contest at Ohayocon (and cried outisde the video room as each one went worse and worse) and it was nothing close to what was described here.

Frankly, I am ashamed as someone who puts effort on making a contest that looks and sounds adequate that these monkeys think they can halfass it and make a few bucks off the deal.

I think the infuriating thing though is they are not learning. They don't seem to care if half the events fall on their face as long as they make their cash.

So I will continue what I have since 2001 and support fun conventions who care about their attendees.

In the end, it's up to us fans if we want to support for profit cons or not...

for me, the definition of a convention is an event organized by fans for fans (an excuse for all of us to get together as we share a common hobby)...

To me, making it something for profit is like us here making our AMVs for profit! Frankly they are now making MONEY of our creations as am AMV contest helkps draw the people and hence why I will NEVER send am AMV into a for profit con....

This is something I suggest be considered
