Does sound play in other programs, like Winamp or games?

It may be a fault of you not having the correct codec. Like once, I was watching a fansub of a DBZ ep (This was actually happening with quite a few, FYI), and I was running the ep through the 4.02 DivX codec. It turns out I needed the 3.11a audio codec installed. I installed the DivX 3.11a codec, and the video and audio played fine.

Good point. Does it not play audio on just some files, or does it not play audio on ALL files?

My advice to avoid problems like these is to download every codec possible....well, maybe not EVERY one, but pretty much.

This way there's no possible chance that I won't have any problems.

Here's a list of what I can think of. I've had absolutely no problems since I've gotten all of these:

Video
Ligos Indeo 4.5 and 5.11
DivX Pro 5.x
DivX 3.11 alpha (displays Low-Motion and High-Motion on codec listings)
HuffYuv 2.1.1
MPEG-2 decoder (DVD Software)

Audio
MP3 codec (Radium, LAME, etc)

(Windows Media Player 7.01)
