Format for Still Images in video??

Postby rubyeye » Sat Sep 14, 2002 10:09 am

What format do I use for still images (photos/scans) if I want to use them in video?

Programs like Behind the Music or any documentary on The History Channel uses photos/stills mixed in with video footage. The more regocnizable use is in MADs. But what is the ideal format for those images they are using?

Can someone let me know - resolution? format? size? etc.

Just use BMPs or PSDs, they both work flawlessly in Prmeiere. Also PSDs allow you to modify things like alpha channel from within photoshop so that's very handy.

I use whatever I got. Pinnacle programs seem to display everything in the same quality. For me the general file type I go for are bitmaps and jpegs, they are the best quality I've got access to with a fair sized file.

Just to clear some stuff up:

Bitmaps are uncompressed pictures. So they are of very high kwality. PSDs use a lossless form of compression and also save layer data.
JPEGs are lossy but they do provide a savings in file size. If you don't have access to BMPs use a hi-kwality JPEG.

It sounds like you're scanning these pictures in?

Pretty much the resolution needs to match the size of your project. If you're using Premiere you can use keyframing and the image pan effect to do zooming & panning on the image.
