COMPETING IS USELESS

Postby MomochiZabuza » Tue Feb 01, 2005 5:07 pm

well, im going for rookie of the year this year, because well my videos are pretty good for a noob i think :P

but i realized something while looking at other rookie's profiles

they are much more well known than me

i could be 10 times better a creator that Koop and still not win, im not known! competing against these people is useless!

I wouldn't say competing is useless, but it'd be nice if we could win by not competing -hehehe- besides nominating is over. Also don't take being the underdog too bad, after 4 years (yes 4) ppl still don't recognize my genius lol.

Did Koop even do anything noteworthy this year? Apart from Rei-Mix and Euphoria, I haven't heard much in the way of people raving about his stuff.

Usually you become well-known when people start to really like your videos. Almost everyone's videos get downloaded by at least a few people, and if those people really liked your video, they usually leave opinions, especially if the video doesn't have many. Once a video gets three or more opinions and has good scores, more people see those scores and download the video, and then if it's popular enough, it'll eventually get on the top 10 %, leading to you becoming a more well-known AMV maker.

A good way to get people to see your latest vids is to announce them in the forum. If it gets lots of good replies, more people download it, and you get more well-known. If you don't get many good replies... well, it's usually because people think you need to improve.

I'll put it this way... usually if a creator's well-known, it's for a good reason.

Here's my little bit of blanketed advice on how to gain popularity for oneself and one's videos:

Hasn't worked for me yet. I've submitted some of my videos to cons and noticed no increase in the number of hits or downloads I've been getting. Is that to suggest that my videos are bad? I guess that's up to the viewer to decide, but so far, the feedback I've gotten has been positive.

Anyway, I might just be feeling a bit of rage from the nominations. I really thought I had a video that might have been good enough to at least make the first cut in the trailer category. I really don't care about winning, but I would like for some people to be aware that I exist.

Also adding to that rage was that a lot of popular videos I didn't really like (or in some cases absolutely hated) ended up with several nominations. But that's just my opinion.
Final Doom "Amazing things will happen here soon."

that's not always quite true... It really depends on a lot of factors...

Popularity can be from a number of reasons from which can include past popularity, for having consistantly good videos, catering to the fans, all the way to the one video that just happends to become very popular. It could even be a mixture of all the above.. Personality can have a fator in it as well

Being well known doesn't hurt, though. Aluminum is nominated for creator of the year this year, and he hasn't done much these days. I am sure if Kevin Caldwell was available for voting for, he would get votes. :P
