Gundam Seed Ending *spoliers*

Hey, I just finished watching the last episode of Gundam Seed and I didn't quite understand what happened at the end. Did the Genesis fire at Washington or not?

Oh, and this is kind of unrelated to the topic, but is Gundam Seed Destiny a kind of continuation of Gundam Seed?

I am pretty sure that Gundam Seed Destiny is a continuation of Gundam Seed. But I am sorry to say that I missed the last episode of Gundam Seed. I wish I could have seen it.

G.E.N.E.N.I.S, did not fire it was blown up by justice going critical, and also destiny is a conclution to SEED which rocks it continues a few years after.
