He's been working on it, on and off, for several months. He got started using POV-Ray to make space ships for an online game he is into, I think it's vga-planets. He got into making this mecha just for fun.

I've put more than a hundred hours into that picture, no doubt. I made it using POVray:

http://www.povray.org

My POVray work is a joke compared to what some others do, but making a fully-posable mech is no small feat. POVray just isn't designed for that sort of thing. Most of that time I spent was getting the joints to rotate on the correct points and that sort of thing.

I made it for a game called VGA Planets 4.0. A play-by-email space conquest game:

http://www.vgaplanets.com

One of the neatest things about the game is that people like me are allowed to make our own playable races. The artwork takes the most time. I actually made that mech for somebody else's race idea, but he rejected it (the bum!). So now all that time is wasted.

Thanks to all here who complimented my work. It's really uplifting. I was a bit down after getting rejected.
