Yaoi-con AMV Contest

Postby anneke » Fri Oct 22, 2004 1:19 pm

Figured I would post here, as WiredKnight is more likely to see it. The AMV contest for Yaoi-con seems to be scheduled for 5:30pm-6:30pm on Saturday. This is all well and good, but that's only 1 hour. Last year the contest was atleast 2 hours.

We want our Yaoi AMV goodness. (Grin)

I might get shot by staff for this but. . .

The one hour time slot wasn't my decision. Appearently we are having some problems schedueling that room, last year we ha dtwo hours easily because we had the video room, but due to the popularity of the contest I pushed for getting the main events room this time so we could accomodate more viewers.

I'm trying to get it extended to AT LEAST an hour and a half but outside of pushing for it, it's out of my hands.

Thanks for the heads-up.

An hour seems very short for a 3-day convention. Is that typical of amv contests at large conventions? :?

As far as I can tell, 2 hours seems more normal for large conventions. Even AnimeNEXT had a 2-hour slot (and 3 showings of it). :)

Well from the cons I've been two about two hours is average. On average you can expect 30 videos at a decent sized con (this varies roughly between 25-35 at Yaoi-con) and at three minutes a piece minimum (there is no minimum requirement but generally its' rare to see videos shorter than this) the contest comes out to be an hour and a half.

Add in me having to open and close the contest along with voting and we hit the two hour mark.

Last year in the video room we had enough attendees that we were allready violating fire codes and had people sitting on the floor when we were turning people away because the room was too full. The main events room is being used to rectify this thus I need slightly more time to set up since the tech equipment isn't readily in there. Rest assured, I'm doing my best to get this working right.

They tried to tell me that you told them you only needed one hour. (bah!) I knew that wasn't true.

Maybe see about an 'overflow' screening at some point in the video room? That way if something are cut we can still watch them.

I also will have my computer with me, which will be in the Cypress room. I can set it up early there, so it can be used as a 'secondary' video room...shrugs.
