How do I get rid of MPG2's little friend?

Postby Yogurtron » Mon Sep 09, 2002 4:12 pm

Well, for the heck of it, I wanted to try out the MPG2 codec in my encodes. I doubt that I'll distribute it with that codec, being that most people don't have an adequate codec installed. So, I got my HuffYUV version of my video (as made by premiere) and put it through TMPEGenc. It came out with astounding quality... everywhere but in the top right corner, where I found this little friend

I'm wondering, why was that added onto my video, and how do I get rid of it? Is there another program I should use to make my video to an MP2, or something I can do in TMPEGEnc to get rid of it?

I remember a very similar logo (if not the same) coming out from the Elecard MPEG2 Decoder.... is that the one you are using to play your file? In that case it's the player software that adds the logo: it's not in the MPEG2 file. TMpeg doesn't add any kind of watermark to your files :P

P.S.: try to open your video with a software DVD player, you should see the watermark disappear ;)
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

It's because you are using the Elucard mpeg2 filters to play back the footage.

It's not in the original, it's being added by your playback filter.

If you run the mpeg2 file through a REAL mpeg2 decoder like powerdvd or windvd then you'll see it's fine.

Well, the only reason I thought TMPEG put it in, was because I looked at the mp2 file when imported to TMPEG and Adobe Premiere, it kept that watermark.
Anyway, is there anyway to encode it to MP2 where that watermark won't show up when played (and when being imported to other editting programs)?

I was looking at the AMV to "silent lucidity" and noticed that in the properties shown in Windows Media Player, that the codecs and whatnot being used were identical to mine, except for one. Their's just had "MPEG Video Decoder" while mine had the "Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder." Does that mean the supposedly "MPEG2 silent lucidity" is actually MPEG1 with only the MPG2 demultiplexer? Speaking of when, while I'm on the supject, what is multiplexing?

Try this codec:

Note also that you don't want to inmport mpeg2 files into Premiere unless you have 6.5 or are using AviSynth.

Okay, thanks klinky ^_^. The codec seems to be running well for WMP, doesn't appear the adobe is accepting it, unless I reboot (doing sends now, so i'll reboot and test again later). Anyway though, normally I wouldn't put it into premiere, but i was doing it to see if the watermark would stay when re-rendering this video (like to change it to HuffYUV if I wanted to edit something FROM the video, to something else). And I was right, that little watermark stayed when converting. Anyway though, this MPG2 codec seems to work significantly better. Thank you ^_^

You can rename your m2p/m2v file into Premiere 6.0x by renaming it to .mpg and importing it. It will import it, but use a directshow filter to decode it, which doesn't work since most aren't frame accurate. You could try AVISynth & it's DirectShowSource, or possibly MPEG2DEC w/ MPEG2SOURCE. Neither of these methods work as good as HuffYUV file would(or even work at all since I haven't tested them).

klinky - you still have to use dvd2avi to make a d2v file before using the mpeg2dec method.
