King Crimson - "In The Court Of The Crimson King"

Very nice, seems a bit different from most of the other KC stuff I've listened to (Epitaph...Dinosaurs to name a couple) I really wanna find Deception of the Thrush, seeing as thats my favourite song.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Actually, ITCOTCK is closer to Epitaph than most songs, seeing how it's on the same 1969 album.

Finding 'Thrush is a little tricky since it has no 'official' album version. The one I used was from the recent 'Eyes Wide Open' DVD set (disc one, Tokyo 2003). There's about 5 more takes on it on the 2nd disc alone, and I've heard well over a dozen in total. They get very different.

My favorite seems to vary between the Heavy ConstruKction CD2/EWO DVD2 version (London, 2000), the Level Five EP version (Nashville, 2001), and EWO DVD1 version (Tokyo, 2003).

The more accessible versions tend to be from 1997-1999, and while they're very good, they don't have any of the epic feel that the piece achieved by 2003.

now...

ProjeKct 3 - Deception of the Thrush (Level Five version)

A very strong take on it. Compared to the Tokyo version, it has a more subdued middle section (the difference is mainly in the rhythm section, which is a lot less aggressive here), but the soloing on the last part may arguably be even stronger. It's a bit less calming by comparison, suggesting longing, and the playing is more guitar-like and has more of an echo.

Hmm, no, I don't think I'm done just yet. Blame Koji for reminding me :D

ProjeKct 4 - Deception of the Thrush (San Francisco, 1998)

'Thrush played by a quartet. Actually, the difference isn't all that big, mainly that Tony Levin takes bass in the middle section and Trey does some ambient synth sounds in the background on the Warr guitar, which would normally do the bass part.

It seems to be a bit stretched, too, maybe one of the longest takes on the piece at over 8 minutes. The transitions between sections seem to be blurred, and there's now occasional, really low bass accompanying the final section, which also seems to be mostly devoid of drums/percussion. It's easy to see how much experimenting they did with 'Thrush during its' life.

And the audience seemed to like it

New Order - "Blue Monday(BBC Live performance)"

The 7-minute version. Funny because he uses the f-word on what is presumably be played live on tv and radio. Guess the Brits are easier on that kinda thing. Also funny because the Orgy cover of this song has no f-words, even though just about every other song on that album had the f-word in it.

Why am I saying f-word? I'll just get it over with: fuck.

New Order - "Elegia (live)"

yes, live at some pub somewhere....people are talking, and I can hear glasses clattering. Has anyone heard this song? (interesting to note, the album that this song orginally appeared on is quite contrstly different for two reasons: 1. This is the only instrumental song and 2. It sounds sad while the rest of the album is typical upbeat '80s) hell it's time for some shameless self promotion: My vid that uses this song Hell, it's the only vid that uses this song. Does this mean that even though the vid editing quality is lacking, I'm still original becasue no one else has used the song?

/ends shameless

No, nothing like that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was sex related.

The Resident Evil Apocalypse soundtrack does have something redeeming: a new (or unreleased) track by Rammstein called "Mein Teil"(My Part). Sounds a bit like "Tier"(animal) at parts, but it sounds good...

King Crimson - Funky Jam

Just what the title sounds like. Fun stuff; obviously like funk but with a King Crimson twist on it, which in this particular case means odd meter and synth guitar solos. One thing I do find amusing here is the fact that you can hear frontman Adrian Belew cueing the chord changes and such.

forming- the germs (live)

this album is great. for one, you can hear alot of the audiences responce (theyre throwing stuff in the first couple of songs) and the bands interaction with them (good or bad). gives it a new energy. theres some good responce too.

but the best part is darby crashes performace. man, with all that energy he puts out, no wonder he burned out around 20.

Spandau Ballet - I'll Fly For You

A jazzy--almost loungey--little album tune from the British "Blue-Eyed Soul" band more famous for "(I Know This Much Is) True" (although their other hit, "Gold", appeared in "GTA: Vice City").

This song was a nice little ditty to strut to as I made my way down San Francisco's Market Street and Japantown last February.

I have a very good idea, actually. I have a limited (very) vocabulary(sp?) of German, so I can pick out a few words, plus I have a German-English dictionary.

Bobby Bare - "Six Days Back At Home"

Some good old hell-raisin', socially-irresponsible country music. Unlike all those useless songs with the singer moaning about how hard it is to be away from home and family, in this one the singer's been back home, and can't wait to get the hell out.

Six days is long enough; time to hit the road, get drunk, and try to pick up chicks. Screw domesticity and open up the engines....must just be a coincidence that I'm closing up on my summer job and just more than 12 hours from starting the 14-hour roadtrip out to school..........
