Burning music vids to CD

Postby Anime Jedi » Sun Sep 08, 2002 4:56 pm

I was wondering what are we allowed to do. I mean, are we allowed to burn a music video that we downloaded on to a CD, for our own pleasure.

I bring this up because my hard drive is getting pretty full and I don't want to lose any of your great music videos. I was curious if I could burn them all to CDs, like a backup. It's not like I'm going to sell them, like those you see on eBay (there were a few threads about his before).

Also, would I be able to burn them and give them to a friend, without any money being involved?

I understand that when money becomes involved, the whole thing becomes pretty much illegal, but what happens when there is no money involved?

I'm converting a bunch of AMVs that I downloaded to SVCD format to watch on my television... Sorry, operators are not standing by for your order...

You can burn whatever you want to CD for your own pleasure, that's actually protected by the copyright laws, it's personal use and viewing. Just don't sell the CDs or an angry mob of us ready our torches and shot guns and come after you.

LOL, just be sure none of your 'friends' are record executives or lawyers representing the RIAA.
I have sinned. I made a video I wanted to make that was music + anime + sync + action + effects/transitions. Oh lordy.

as long as you dont do one of those "give" the cd to a friend and the friend "gives" you £5 out of pure kindness.

Well, I'm just glad that no one has gotten mad about this. It helps me a lot to know that you're all (if not mostly) ok with this. Last thing I want to do is offend any of you anime music video creators. I'm not one myself, but I would like to one day. Well, gotta start burning.

^_^ Gotta love cds. They're just like portable hard drives!

Kinda slow there aren't ya?

I use amvs for "filler" when I'm burning anime eps to CD...

So far, I have TONS of digisubs on cd (the ones I liked I bought. The ones I didn't, I gave away...)

And these giveaways have some of YOUR music videos on them. ^_^

I also have 4 master "cds" full of superior anime music videos. Mostly MADs though... ^_^

Anime Jedi: yeah, you can share it with other ppl if you want, just don't make a $$$ profit from it, like selling at ebay

Legally you shouldn't even HAVE AMVs unless you have the song and the anime. Then you shouldn't destribute them (cept to ppl that have both the original music and anime... and they have to have PAYED for the originals... not just rented, no you can't give it to them). Legally you can't even have a Garage sale... as you can see this legal $**** is a bunch of crap.

Basically do whatever ya want with these cept deface them (less you wanna be mean...)
