Getting a projector or a flat screen?

Postby angelx03 » Mon Aug 09, 2004 12:55 am

Hmmm, this is sort of a weird dilemma. My dad claims that showing stuff from the computer through a projecter will have better resolution than showing stuff via a flat screen monitor and the projector cost less. I don't have the specifics of a particular projector or a flat screen; I'm just wondering in general, is he right?

Are you talking about a flat screen computer monitor of TV screen?

The projector will display computer resolution, just remember it is also getting blown up to whatever area you are projecting to. The disadavantage is that you'll need to work in lower light conditions than normal. Also the projector is going to be less energy efficient than a monitor and will use more power. My experience from projectors is that they should be only used occasionally for presentations. One friend of mine used his projector as a computer monitor and the projector burned out in less than a year. Good projectors I think run for around $1000. I don't think it will be less expensive than a monitor.

No he's not correct. It'll give similar resolution, however since it's blown up it'll give you less dpi than a monitor. So technically you'll get a crisper picture out of an LCD at it's native size vs a projector that's doubled the screen size. Most projectors use internal LCD screens as their image source anyways... So, no he's not correct.
