If I needed a new writer, I'd probably get a dual-layer (as long as it did 8x-16x in single layer mode), but I don't see the point in having one now. It's tough finding dual layer blanks, too. I'd rather go the other direction - to the mini-DVDs (3-inch). But the price of those is too high.

BTW, I just got an email this evening from Pegasys stating that version 1.6 of TMPGEnc DVD Author is available. All it does is add support for dual layer DVD+R. $11 to upgrade the software.

According to Klinky that drive will burn dual layer after a firmware upgrade so you should be ok.

Of course, a single DVD9 DVDR will coast you $10 or so currently. :\

I'll be sticking with my single layer burner and spindels of 50 for $50 for a while. Yay for Nero Recode. :}

yea dule layer media is super expensive if u can find it. i only saw it at one place. Izuma you can get 50 dvdr's for $20 if you look around well. and i only got the dule layer one now coz my singel layer one had a 2x singel layer burn and then it broke along with my psu so i got this onthe dule layer one.

yeah, but that might not be so good on the hardware, because the firmware upgrade to make it work with dual layer could drastically shorten the lifespan of the drive
