Otakon Get Together - Time and Place

Postby jbone » Sat Jul 10, 2004 10:31 am

Since the other thread's dead, here's the plan:

Meet at 7:30pm in front of the convention center, around the area of the prereg line. From there, we'll walk to the waterfront mall and pick a restaurant. (For those of you who haven't been there before, there are many restaurants.)
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

I just suggested that in the other thread.

Sounds like a plan. Here's hoping everyone is done with pre-reg by 7:30 (I'm assuming you mean on Thursday afternoon/night).

I'll be there. I plan on leaving my area by 7 in the morning, getting into Baltimore by *crosses fingers for DC traffic* 3 pm, hopefully through the line by 7:30.

Make sure everyone wears their a-m-v.org badges lol :D

Yeah, I'd be for meeting somewhere in the con as well as on Thursday. Problem is I've never been to otakon, so I certainly couldn't tell you where :D

Ive only been once but i will tell you this...knowing what someone will be wearing (including the badges) will help out alot. Last year when i went my friend and I split up to get our badges and it took a good 3 hours to find each other again and we had cell phones.

Yeah my flight will be getting in late. I have two possible flight-in times (5:30 or 8-something) and am leaning towards the latter purely because it means I don't have to use another vacation day.

I guess that means no gathering for me since I'd need to get my badge as well.

I don't at all mean to derail things, but is there any interest of possibly doing something later in the night? I don't imagine I'm the only one getting in late, so perhaps us stragglers could get together? I recall not eating dinner till at least like 10 or so last time around *shrug*..

the dinner being so late was one of the problems to begin with. Remember how we had a hard time finding a place to eat and barely was able to get into a resturant right before they closed. Not that a late gathering is out of the question. Just that food will be harder to come by. The pre-reg line got pretty long on thursday night. You might not get out until real late. I think the people who know each other can just pass along the cell phone numbers and contact each other as things progress. Trying to plan for things like this are real hard in general. It will keep being pushed farther and farther back as one more person wants to go. Plus. in a big group we won't really be able to all get to know each other to begin with.

Lets do a roll call right now and see the numbers. Maybe we can then get a better idea of people and when they would like to meet up.

Respond to the thread now with a preferential time. I like 7:30 myself only cause i'll be really hungry at like 10.

7:30 sounds fine to me. I won't really be there for the pre-reg line so I can be where ever the meeting place is supposed to be at 7:30. I won't have a badge, but I will have a cell phone in case people want to use me as a contact.

I know most restaurants will take reservations for large parties. Find one of the restaurants when we get an estimate of how many people are coming, make a reservation. No need to make too big a decision out of choosing either, people are going mostly for social reasons right? ^_^

I hope to be in line by 3, so 7:30 works for me as well. Not sure if I'll have a cell phone :( but I'll be wearing my badge and looking for everyone else as well :D
