All of the videos together run at least 2 hours and 15 min which is usually the length of a normal amv contest. The judging will take place this saturday and I should have the results on sunday..... if I'm not drunk. :P

Hey that s the best part of NOT being a judge in a tourny. You get to kick back have a few drinks and enjoy.

Castor, enjoy ;)

I'll be checking on Sunday for results. As for predictions, its too close to call. Everyone did such great vids. Its hard to narrow it down. If I was a judge, and I have been a judge in past tournies, it would be difficult for me to pick which ones I like best.

All though that one by J.Alana is kind of good....but oh wait, that's me! LOL

Just joking.

Good luck to all!

It would be great if you could host another contest like this some other time. Becuase I only have windows movie maker and I'm not about to go out and buy a $600 program to make AMV's. Contest like this are perfect for me. I can't enter the others becuase I probably would'nt stand a chance. The amount of special affects alone makes there AMVs better than mine. This is a nice contest that I think you or someone else should definaltey bring back one day. I would've entered but I did'nt see this topic until today. Oh well.

Yeah. I hurts to know the truth sometimes.

But it's ok. I guess this means I'll just have to get REALLY REALLY good with WMM to compete in these contests. It might even mean I'll have to become the best at using WMM. Who knows. But it would be nice to say I at least won second place in an AMV contest using only windows movie maker. 8)

The point of this contest - despite what some people seem to think - isn't to inflate egos or pinpoint the superstars. It's to show that the program you use doesn't matter. I'm sure many people who entered worked very hard to spice up their vids to the point where it doesn't look like they could have made them in wmm. But if you check con results on average, there are many 'simple' videos that win - ones that could have been done in windows movie maker 1.0 (forget 2.0). Work on the concept first, worry about the eye candy second. And if all you care about is having a name, then attach yourself to an effect-knowing creator and pump him for tips on using Premiere and After Effects - or nab yourself a paint program and VirtualDub and do your own additions. Wmm only limits you as much as you let it - it's just a matter of what you're aiming for. Few people using Premiere *only* use Premiere, and despite the rules in this contest, the same is true for wmm users. Don't let anyone tell you you're out of luck because you missed what some seem to see as an 'easy win.' It's that sort of outlook that holds people under. Ignore it and do what you enjoy - if you enjoy the limelight, go see what works in the top 10 list and copycat it. If you enjoy making vids, get yourself a solid concept and chances are others will enjoy it as well.

This sort of contest won't get you a 'name'. There aren't enough 'judges' watching it. What you need is a con where many people will see your video up close. That's the sort of thing that creates a name - being announced before the hardcore amv'rs who see contests as the final 'in' of editing. Look around and notice the new members who come by just to find a certain video he or she happened to see at a con. I doubt you'll find the judges of this contest coming around to spread your fame, even if you had entered and won. You didn't miss out on anything except the chance to participate in a rather unique (and somewhat private) compilation of videos using a single editing program - and free dvds for the winners, of course. ^.^

So don't feel bad and don't let anyone 'rip you a new one.' Figure out what you're doing this for and go for it. Nothing else matters.

You can still compete in contest if you only use WMM
it is not the special effects that make a good video they just help out a lot.

I appreciate the advice. I really do. I would just like to make caler of one thing first. My whole statement of how it would be nice to get second place in a contest using only windows movie maker was'nt to create a name for myself or to be popular on this site but rather to be looked at as a self accomplishment. Nothing more. Honestly. But it's nice to know that you don't HAVE to be using an expensive program to compete in an AMV contest. I like what you said about WMM only limiting you as much as you let it.

I'll remember what you posted Arigatomyna. That was some good advice. :)

I can't agrree with you more. You are a video creator that I respect a lot. Not because you use flashy effects but because you know that you have control over your program and you use it well. Your right wmm1 can produce great videos too. I used wmm for two years solid and some videos that people say are my best all time videos "aka Lose Yourself" all over Kazaa were videos conceived and produced with moviemaker. It doesn't matter what you use to make a video, what matters is that you know how that vid is going to be start to finish BEFORE it hits the timelline. This contest is great because it is showing that you don't have to use AE or Premiere to make a great video.. You just need a little imagination, a little time, some patience and an idea.

The larger contests like AnimeNext showcase vids by the so-called pro's but what you don't realize is that there is room in that contest for everybody. In fact, right now my studio J&P Productions is hosting a noob tourny soon and it will be only for noobs no pro's. Why? Because I want to see what the next gerneation of vid makesrs can yield and if possible, I want to be able to pass on what I have learned.

Yeah you can get an inflated ego easily from doing this because all of sudden to the internet community your a celebrity. Not the kind of celebrity that makes millions a year (I wish.) but the kind that wins hearts and minds. The trick is to realize that you arent a cut above everyone else and that there is always somebody better so to stay in line, you just have to be the best you can be for yourself. The fans will fall in line and respect you for that.

Cheers!
