Anubisxx - I see the pictures (I'm using Mozilla Firebird) and all I can say is I feel your pain. I don't know what it is about the region 2's but theres no amount of proccesing that will make yours as good as that. It's darker, the colors are of and the contrast is lower. But most importantly it's blurry to the point where a lot of the details that can be seen in Otohikos version simply aren't there anymore.

Otohiko - I love the demos, awesome work. As for the song I really like the rythem although I don't care for the melody in the first minite for some reason. The rest of the song is awesome and I can't wait to see what you do with it. As for the second demo The effects on spike might look better if they were on the background. Is there any way to change spike's expression/posture/anything at least once (twicew would be ideal) when the music jumps to a higher pitch. It could be subtle but it would make it a ton more life like.

aznRAVEr - if you wanted to emphisize the portrit idea you could put up some kind of border. It would have to be subtle though and not distract from the video. As far as tweaks, the only thing I would suggest is to be very carefull with your use of black and white. Try to find a specific purpose or meaning to it's use and limit yourself to that because you use it so much it's impact is lessened, and there's places I couldn't figure out why like when everyones cheering. The part where she wresled the dragon had to be my favorite use of that effect in that video.

ooshna - I did! I love betas so it's always a thrill to see a new one go up. Other than interlace and compresion artifacts the video is turning out very well. I love how you use fades almost like an instrument to mach the violin. And the motercycles fit perfectly with the faster paced theme. You also did a good job with the back and forth, building tension. I really like where this is going. It's not telling a story and it's not action but rather it seems to potray the music visually. keep it up, I look forward to your next beta.

Too many posts by me

Postby NeoQuixotic » Tue Apr 27, 2004 9:36 pm

Sorry about all the posts I tried to show images in, not sure why they don't show up in IE. I tried Firebird and did see them like you said Pen-Pen. I'm completely new with AVS so I barely know what I'm doing :? . I'll continue reading the guides and would love if anyone could give me tips on improving visual quality.

In all reality I'm just happy with the quality of the footage I have. Only a few scences stick out as bad, but then again I don't have those Uber quality DVDs that Otohiko's friend has. (Maybe I should buy them ^_^ only $50 bucks and S&H) But need R2 drive, hmm, (could crack mine or my spare drive!)

Well I'll continue working on editing and maybe obtaining those remastered digital telecine DVDs. Props to everyone elses WIPs!
Insert clever text/image here.

pen-pen--actually there was a story behind the use of the black white, its not random, but i forgot why. i think it was to emphasize the contrast between the sad chihiro and happy chihiro or something like that i forgot (sorry i've had too many iron butterflies since then).

Also, i couldn't possibly remake the video right now with the same quality because i deleted all my files and vobs. but i promise that my next video will be something totally different. as soon as SAT's and AP's are done thats all im gonna do ^_^.

Ok I got the avs plunin working and I got my adio file to goto 24fps. Now do I need to put the force 24fps in my AVS file and then make and AVI out of it or will the 23.976 avi work for editing?

OK I uploaded ver.2 which was pretty much the same thing as my first one only it used an avs file. But then 8 hours later I uploaded ver.3 Which is the first three minutes of my video. Nothing in it is final I'm probably gonna fix alot of the timimg in the parts with the riots what I want to know is if I got the timing right from about 1:50 - 2:03 and from 2:52 - 3:01 Thanks.

Anubsx - so the theme of the week is that IE sucks. In all fairness to Microsoft, however, I'm on Mozilla Firebird for Linux, and the images don't show up until I right click on them and specifically dictate "Show Images" - so these pages might have something to do with it. Having seen the images, however, I am curious as to how uncompressed (or rather un-more-compressed) DVD footage could have those artifacts. Yours looks like a bad JPEG or a funny variation of DivX rather than super-high-bitrate MPEG2. Smoothing would reduce the blocking/banding artifacts' visibility, but they would return when you compress the final for distribution, and you'd be removing yet more detail. Similarly, any increase in contrast would emphasise the non-continuity of the background gradient unless you also kicked up the brightness a lot - and by "a lot" I mean like the first half of my video, which still had all those artifacts in the non-pure white regions (until I painted them out, which is incredibly time-consuming), but which is so damn bright that you can't really see them. Dark video brings out stuff like that because the eye's (or rather, the mind's) perception of differences in brightness is not linear, but rather as a ratio of sorts to the brightness of the region being looked at.

AznRAVEr - "In a Gadda Da Vida...", nevermind. Really, though, if the effect you're going for is a picture frame, why not use something more 'picture-framy' than a black border. I don't necessarily mean some big patterned Baroque-looking thing, just something that looks like it has a form rather than being mistakable for a lack of cropping. The video is great, but I think it looks a little awkward with the thick, flat, black edges. Of course, those APs are bitch, so you might want to hold off on the editing stuff for a while. SATs - not bad, just long. APs - I'm glad I don't have to take them again.

Ooshna - I've never tried this "bait and switch" bit, but it sounds like it might work. It'll be interesting to see the results.

Is it just me, or is there only one person in this entire thread who has been on the .org for less time than I have?
may seeds of dreams fall from my hands -
and by yours be pressed into the ground.

Yea, indeed. I could be here for a long time, and I still wouldn't be able to manage a project like this - mainly due to the lack of FTP space (I could try to set up a server like that, but generally speaking, my ISP would probably cut me off once I went too far over monthly bandwith limits which I exceed almost twice anyways). So, as long as you're active... it's good. Apparently, my time spent here gives me no advantage...

(own video storyboarding rant)

Meanwhile, while I still need to see Bebop again, I did do some mental storyboarding and structuring. Essentially, what I'm looking at is 4 large sections, perhaps with an intro and an outro.

The first section would basically be the set-up - that's the one where Pen-Pen doesn't like the melody :P What I suppose would be good there is landscapes, the Bebop itself, and perhaps character portraits. Essentially, just introducing the setting and the crew into the video (since we've already established that I look at videos as short movies, in a sense).
Then I'm looking at the second section, with the sax solo, and this sounds like a good place for a mix of action and humor, which would come out of the series just fine.
Then I have the 'Groovy Section', which I do have some weird plans for (which should mix the real story of the music piece's creation, a bunch of effects as seen presently, and some more general funky and somewhat humor-oriented stuff)...
Then there's the later section which should probably go into the more serious aspects of Bebop. And I'll certainly have to try hard to think of something other than Spike falling out the window for that descending guitar finale :P

Anyone who's seen Bebop - if you have suggested scenes or ideas for this structure - feel free to throw em in

Can someone help me with a name for my video? I canonly think of one. I was thinking about Simplicity because I have only changed the speed of clips and used rubberbands making it a simple video.

Well, as did I in my previous vid (unless you count the titles :P)

I'll have to see it first, and I'm waiting for the betas to get moved - let me check it out, and I'll see if I come up with anything.

What music are you using again?
