An external host is basically a seperate website that'll host stuff for you like images and such.

If you want your sigs and/or avatars hosted separately, I suggest this website:

<img> tags don't work on this forum; you have to use the BBCode image tags.

The avatar's info page clearly says that it's jpg. When I upload it from my computer and say submit it says that it must be jpg,gif and the other thing when my image is clearly jpg! What's wrong!<3???

I can't remember what the rules for sig pics are (dimensions, filesize) AND since I've never posted a pic in my sig, some good directions would be uber super.??

I host here:

Photobucket.com

To keep my url short, I usually name the file something like, "2.gif"?

??.sure beats, "thisimageusedtohaveareallybiglongnamesoichangedit.gif"

??.lol?

Anyway, I just wanted to make sure my avatar was legal. It's externally hosted, it's 80x80, but it's 7k. (gasp!)

Hope this post helps, and lemme know if my 1k over is a no no.

I totally think that they should change the rules for the avatars and sig.

I mean, it's just near-darn impossible to find a perfect avatar to fit into that small little hole!
And I have some pretty cool pictures too :(

LIES!

No, really. That's quite big compared to some forums. And think of the 56kers! If we had an option to turn off all sigs, than it would be reasonable, but now.?? that's a lot of extra traffic for some people.

Just make your own avatars - it's a guarantee they'll always be the right size.

OK! I suppose my avatar was indeed not going to sneak past the rules, lol.

<---So here's my shiny new one, in color! (and legal!)
