Oh - I forgot this one with my last post:

Any ideas on what timeframe we should be putting on this thing? I'd like to set some sort of target date, but would like to know if anyone:

- Wants to make another video beyond what they've already started.
- Wants to make a video, but hasn't posted anything yet.
- Is a busy student who'd like to have a bit of time after school breaks to finish up their project.
- Really just wants to get this done.
- Has anything else to say on the matter.
may seeds of dreams fall from my hands -
and by yours be pressed into the ground.

I'll definitely want to make another vid, and since I have about a week free between today and exams, I should realistically be able to finish the current one, and try to get somewhere with something next. Logically speaking, considering I've already done a weird, scary instrumental video and a more action-packed instrumental video, I might be aiming for something more funny, though who knows...

Hopefully exams won't kill my schedule too much either - they're all within about a 5-day period, and I don't worry much about studying.

Timeline wise - well, that depends on what exactly we're aiming for and how other people are looking at it. I don't think we need to be in a rush, as long as there's reasonable progress being made by more than one member.

If you're having problems with keyframes, etc. - especially for putting the videos together, I think one of the other members could pitch in and help with that (I could do it, but I need to learn the XviD/DivX trick before I do any serious compression, etc.). I'd just remind the members to try and keep to 24 FPS format (since it seems that's what most of the videos are in already) to avoid problems in getting the project together.

In general, I could easily make instrumental videos for... a long time, so as long as the project is going, I'm probably going to be contributing.

How good should one be for this project?

As good as you can be :P

No, seriously, I don't think there's a requirement like that here; but you're expected to put in a good, honest job.

Look at it this way: of the editors on this project, seems that DWP is pretty much the only one who's been at this for over a year; I've only just managed to make something that didn't hurt people's eyes, and Pen-Pen only put out a single vid so far (afaik...).

So if you have an idea, I more than encourage you to contact rose4emily and come along!

I think we're all technically on a submission for approval basis. *Cracks whip* But I agree with Otohiko, if you have an idea run with it. At the very least you can get a lot of help and feedback by posting betas on the FTP.

Sweet, new ararat. 17K/sec? grrrrr. Man am I spoiled by broadband. :P

Rose4Emily, the new 3rd stone is a huge improvement. It's much easier to watch the whole thing through now. The titles are great! Where does the text come from? Noticed some repeated footage where you could have just used a still instead of looping (Natoa watching the girl with her feet in the water.) I actually love the song, chaos and all. There is one part that's really quiet and seems stretched though. The video is more watchable now, it's on a whole different level than the first build and with more editing it could jump another. The biggest problem in my mind is still long sections that look like they were taken straight from the anime, it makes it look lazy. Anyway, I'm going to take care of a few things then give you a full rundown of what I think later tonight.

As far as timeline (which by the way was a great movie) goes I have no Idea how long my video will take because my first vid I was learning programs and such a lot. I think I'll lay it all out like Otohiko did and fine tune it from there as opposed to my usual one clip at a time method. If miracles happen and I finish before you people come beating down my door I might be interested in doing another. God knows the .ORG can always use another artistic (hopefully) instrumental vid. It all depends on how things go.

Damn, just realized the post office is closed so I can't get a money order for phade. (Yes, I'm finally donating. It's not my fault I'm lazy. )

AFAIK = As Far As I Know

(the more you know  )

I'll check out the new version of Third Stone shortly, too. We'll see how the titles work there - might give me some ideas. My current idea is to use some fancy filtered font which has a separate moving shadow layer for effect (I have no idea whether that'll actually look good... but it looks good 'on paper'). Currently fixing up a couple of nags in the later segment, then reordering the last quarter of the vid.

Rants aside... I gotta try the money order thing sometime too. If only I knew how it worked

...well...

I've been mulling over various ideas for instrumental music amvs for a while, but I'm not sure if I really want to do it, and anyway it would have to be after the video I'm working on now, so at any rate, don't wait for me, but since you wanted to know...

at any rate, I'll be watching the project progress with some interest.

:goes off and "mulls" further:

sorry if you feel I've wasted your time by being so unsure...

i would like to try another video - if i can come up with an idea. i'll probably watch fantasia this weekend or so, and maybe dl some more songs. thursday will be my last exam (and the most painful one) until finals (middle of may).

i'm glad to see new people showing interest in our project. the more diverse the video, the better.

New participants - yeah!

There is no "experience" requirement. The videos do have to be approved, but that's more along the lines of making sure no one does anything really ugly or disguisting.

As to the "Third Stone" video:

The first line of of the text is from FLCL's intro. Everything else is from Jimi Hendrix's original "Third Stone from the Sun". I used the lines, in order, and only cut out one that really didn't fit ("grass of green" after "strange, beautiful"). I just hope I can find a way to get the actual text to look better on my final encode.

The slow parts do still drag. I still plan to do the overlays to help fix that (I think that'd be much better than a bunch of cuts to different scenes in those sections), but am holding off on that until I find the source of my text and timing problems on the encode (or give up on finding the source of my text and timing problems on the encode, I might just make a few compensatory adjustments at the three points where the timing issues really wreck things - the cut from half of Naota's face to half of Mamimi's face, the "light-up" girders on the bridge that should be coinciding perfectly with the guitar, and the two explosions at the end, which should be falling right on the beat).

Well, I've finished my re-edits on Ararat, just titles left now - I should have more WIP shortly.

The one thing I really couldn't do much about is tweaking out the EQ to tone down the rhythm section in the early bit - too tricky, since the rhythm includes all sorts of frequencies, so whatever I do, the violin is still sort of 'buried' under it. Can't turn one up or down without doing the same to the other :(

The rest is good though, following up on the titles. New upload tonight.

Alright - heads up, new version of Ararat should be uploaded within minutes. Changes include minor tweaks, the added/restructured segment towards the end, and the use of titles.

Tell me how close you think it is to final, Pen-Pen

Oh yea, quick note - update the track assignment file, seeing how my Kashmir video is almost done, yet it's not even mentioned as assigned there.

As for my next video - I'm thinking that to work against what I've already done, something humorous and acoustic would be nice.

...considering.
