Anime Boston 2004 was awesome, but AMV Iron Chef needed work

Postby phrea_Vicious » Mon Apr 12, 2004 9:32 am

Anime Boston this year was very good. However, I think next time we are going to pre-pick the judges and panelists. The first Iron Chef was great: Otakuforlife vs. DOkool. Excellent heckeling(sp?) from our panelists, good judges, responsive audience. Otaku ended up winning. Because it turned out so well, we decided to hold a rematch on Sunday. Big mistake. Sunday is the worst day to have any panel, especially AMV Iron Chef. The only people who really showed up had no idea the amount of work AMVs require, even after both DOkool and Otakuforlife stated that average AMVs (competition quality) are 30+ hours of work. The judges were terrible, giving 0s and 3s for work done in ONE HOUR. They actually expected good lip-syncing! How pathetic! The videos were actually pretty good for an hour. DOkool actually won that one, despite the audience's response to Otaku's video. Not to say DOkool's videos weren't good; I actually enjoyed his second video a lot more than his first(the simplicity worked; it's a nice change to see from you, gave it "more of a soul" :D )So now Brian and Dan are at one win each. This is where this post comes in: who saw the Iron Chefs at AB this weekend? What did you think? Also, we are planning on doing a rematch next year and we want panelists and judges. Obviously, panelists only need to be mildly serious, but really funny. Judges HAVE to be serious about this!!!!! Brian was the underdog this year, with a terrible computer. Next year I'm letting him use my laptop, so it will be an even match, so good judges are important. There will be two matches. I will need about three more panelists for each match and five different judges for both matches. Translation: I don't care if the panelists from the first panel are in the second, but I need DIFFERENT judges for the second match. Obviously, if that doesn't work, I nix that. We have a year to plan and I intend to use it! Anyone wishing to be a judge or panelist, pm me or im me at my YAHOO addy(my hotmail is too full). Also, we plan on posting the videos from both matches. Next year is important, because Otaku and Dokool are very evenly matched. The winner will get a better prize than a signed box of pocky(though they do get to keep the one from this year). Otaku, DOkool, if you want to pitch in money, I will buy an engraved trophy! Wow, this is really long. I should end it now.

Oh yeah. For the record, both Otakuforlife and DOkool got robbed for scores. I would declare the second match null and void, but that would seem like I'm siding with Brian. So it's counting, but next year is what's really gonna decide who 0wNz who. Oh, and I'm going to pick the anime and music, not because I want to give Otaku the advantage, but I want to really screw with you too.

Man, there's about a year and two weeks until AB2005 and you're *already* planning for it?

Still, I bow to your MC-ing l33tness and thank you again for helping to keep the IC as smooth as could possibly have been in the little time we had to prepare it...

Thanks! Yes, I am all ready planning. I want next year's panels to go as smoothly as possible. Not only because the first one was so much fun, but I am truly interested to see which one of you is "the best." You are both very even and your different styles would once again make for an excellent battle. I figure the earlier we get this planned, the more AMVers will show up and it will hopefully make for an excellent two panels. I DO plan on dressing up as Chairman Kargo, and making a badly lip-synced opening speech. If we work on it, it will be even better than the first round.

I think it was due to MY awsome MC'ing that things went so well. Too bad i won't be there next year to do location issues. I would have been willing to participate in the event again.

Yeah yours was good, but YOU weren't asked to do the second panel. I was. Also, I was called "the face of AMV Iron Chef."

I know it's early, but I have a year to put things off. If you can, awesome. DOkool and I think you would make an excellent technical heckler

The "iron chef" event at AnimeBoston 2003 was a travesty unworthy of the name "Iron Chef." The original AMV Iron Chef event was created by Quu, and to this day the ones he runs are the only ones that function properly and are even the least bit entertaining.

Hells, I was MCing the AnimeBoston event on Friday night, and I was bored to no end.

You do realize that the "panel" was a joke at first, right??? We were only screwing around. Also, you do realize that even though we didn't plan and we still had more people than we started? I was told by several people it was their favorite panel, so screw. :P ANYWAYS... we are hoping to make it a real panel next year by, you know, planning and stuff.

Also, DOkool and I are hoping to get in touch with Quu too. You know, we can't be as good as the original; it's impossible. Plus, if you didn't like it, then you shoulda left. It was not a serious panel; we were amazed that there were more than five people at the start and more than five at the end. Last I checked, we (those involved who started the panel) were all less than 22, so you can't expect expert planning or quality.
