*dons special non-deletion armor*
I have mentioned it before, and I think it is time to say it again. I think the forum needs a shot of multiple authority ASAP, namely, more active mods. We need some mods who interact with the people and have a constant presence, and we need enough to have 24/7 forum coverage. Tonight (August 30th-August 31st), 3 members have gone on a spamming rampage. With more mods "on the clock and on patrol", as it were, we wouldn't have to suffer through this.
Right now Phade is the primo top dog to go to with problems, which is fine, and we have a shadow mod floating around who seems mildly overwhelmed or somewhat disinterested in the forum, unfortunately (probably overwhelmed, but you never know
). I think what I'm saying is that, in regards to the forum, Phade needs to delegate control to more people, I'm sorry to say. We have close to or above 30,000 registered members, with about 100-200 active forum users, and at least a handful of obnoxious types who are more. Phade and 1 or 2 shadow mods does not seem to be enough anymore.
What we need are people who can do the following:
1. Delete threads or comments
2. Institute small bans (up to 3 days, maybe?), and talk to Phade about longer bans if necessary.
3. Interact with other forum users and create a "presence" as it were.
I know the reasons why we haven't done this yet are due to worries about personal vendettas and power abuse, and Phade understandably does not want to give control to people he doesn't know personally.
Regarding personal vendettas, this is a worriesome concern. If a mod were to ban someone for whatever reason, that person could talk to Phade, or even better, talk to another, unbiased and perhaps sympathetic mod. Personal vendettas happen, and there are bad apple incidents, but it goes with the territory.
As for Phade not wanting to hand out control, it IS entirely his call. But other forums do it, as a control measure, and it seems to work. There are few pointless topics, troublesome users get taken care of faster and better, and bad posts are deleted.
Anyhow, these are ideas to mull over, whoever wishes to do so, and hopefully they'll lead to some changes for the better. Still, Phade's call, and he is beyond free to disregard this thread or *gulp* delete it if he so wishes.
Post any comments or ideas you may have about this dissertation.
