Super Radical Gag Family 4 (smoking discussion)

After watching Super Radical Gag Family episode 4, I've been thinking about the issue of smokers in Japan. I am interested in learning how it is looked upon, and how accepted it is, as compared to in the USA. What really struck me was towards the end of the episode, the young boy gives cigarrettes to his father and asks something like "Is it good?!" Something like that could never make it onto the airwaves as a children's program in America. It's almost as if the entire episode was telling children that smoking tastes damn good. I have seen counterexamples, such as in kare kano where the chick gets bitch slapped by the other chick for lighting up a smoke :p I was just wondering about overall, how is smoking looked up, especially in regards to the younger crowd.

That last bit should be "how is smoking looked UPON,..."
