The Windows Movie Maker Challenge.

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime music video contests.

I won't be doing this one, but it's not for lack of wanting to. I just don't have the project files for my old vids, and any video that I tried to hurry and make before 10 vids are submitted wouldn't be worth the upload.

Advance notice would have been nice...

Well...

Castor Troy wrote:Deadline

When 10 entries have been recieved, I will decide a deadline.

He didn't say the deadline was 10 entries. I'm just betting he wants to at least know that people are going to participate and how quickly entries are submitted before he establishes a deadline. So, get to work. ^_^

Totally misread that one. >.<
So, get to work. ^_^

Heh, I can't. I'm in the middle of a 6min vid and I broke the rules in the first 2 seconds of it - used mspaint to do the intro pics - no outside work allowed. I won't be able to wrap this up for a few more days. But I'll definitely be looking into it.

Who knows, I could always remake one of my old ones, plenty of those that don't require anything but footage and wmm. ;p

Hmmm.... I think those would be acceptable.

Damn, this sounds like fun, but I doubt I'll have time :(

That, and I have no clue how to use WMM.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

You'll find it pretty similar to premiere, just with less options and stuff.

One thing I like about this contest especially for experienced editors who want to join is that they will have to adjust to a new experience working in WMM.

Everyone is fair game in this contest because the judges do not know who are the well known and unknown creators, nor will I tell any of them until after the contest.

I'm amazed by the large amount of interest in this contest, I may set up a small webpage soon. :)

What the heck...I'll make something. It'll be weird using WMM2 and not normal WMM. :P

So, can I use Cinelerra for this? I mean, it satisfies the "free" criteria, moreso than Windows Movie Maker, since it's Free, not just "free".

Just curious -- no idea if I'll enter.

Cinelerra != WMM

:!:

I think it's a much better idea to have everyone using the same program, not just free ones. This way everyone has all the same resources available; no more, no less.

Part two:

I also don't understand the stipulation that you can't use "crazy filters" for VirtualDub and AVISynth and the like.

The point of this contest is to see what people can do with stuff that isn't insanely expensive, right?

If I wanted a glowing border effect, I could do something like this in AVISynth:

b = AVISource("...")
c = b.Tweak(cont=1.35).Blur(1.5)
m = msharpen(b, threshold=20, mask=true).Greyscale().Blur(1.5).Blur(1.5)
return MaskedMerge(b, c, m)

Sure, it takes some knowledge on what all those filters out there actually do, but it's not like that takes a lot of money. Seems to me as if you have some artificial limitations in place.

I'd enter if I could use virtualdub and avisynth alone.

I don't have XP so I can't install WMM :)

Yeah, it's better :P

However, it's also available to beginners. I should know; I started out on it.

What's with this Windows bias? :P

Trythil, it's restricted to WMM for a reason. I think it would be very hard for Castor to tell the difference between a Cinlerra produced video using vdub and avs filters and a video made in Premiere.

See, that's the thing:

Castor Troy wrote:This is the ultimate contest to prove that you don't need expensive programs like premiere or final cut pro to make a decent video. With Windows Movie Maker being free, everyone has a good shot at making decent videos.

Windows Movie Maker is a free editing system, but there are others out there. If the point of the contest is to prove that you don't need expensive software to do neat things, then I don't see where the WMM-only + no weird filter chains in VDub / AVS limitation comes from.
