DVD quirk

Postby Paul Kievits » Fri Aug 30, 2002 9:31 am

Ok this is probably the wrong forum, but whatever.

Anyway, I use PowerDVD for my DVD playback, however when it starts acessing the second lair (I assume it's the second lair because it always happens just past the half way point) the video/audio gets choppy is unviewable. I never had this problem with WinDVD, but that was slow and choppy as is (I have a shitty PC). Any ideas?

Also one quick question: What would be the best way to take screenshots of a DVD?

Im not sure what could be wrong with your dvd... only thing i can think of is maybe you have a crappy dvd-rom that cant read the 2nd layer very well.
As far as capturing images from dvd, power dvd includes lets you take screenshots from the video. Im not sure how to do it off the top of my head, but you should be able to find it in the help files.

I'm not sure - the problem could be the player or the drive itself.

But LAIR is where an evil person makes their humble abode, and a LAYER is what there can be one or two of on a DVD.

Maybe it's the DVD? See if there's a scratch on it, that may be causing the problem. Get a scratch remover if so. This is what caused my Yuyu bootleg DVD 10 to keep skipping every few seconds at a little past an hour and fifteen minutes in.

1. The drive is a Pioneer DVD-A03S, and as I said the dvd works under windvd but like extremely choppy.

2. No scracthes on the DVD I already checked.

3. Oops my mistake, from now on LAYER ok ^_^

Well a quick way to find out wether its your drive, computer or dvd. Try ripping the DVD to the hard drive, if that doesn't work then its probably the dvd. If you can rip it, and play it from the hard drive then its the drive. And if you can rip it, and when you play it its still choppy then its the computer.
