*PANIC!*

Postby Sierra Lorna » Thu Aug 29, 2002 2:00 pm

AHHH! Why is this happening to me?! Has this ever happened to anyone else before?

Premiere won't open!! I've tried the shortcut, opening it from my project file, and it starts to open, but then it just... closes! I've tried looking on the help site, and couldn't find anything. I shut off my computer, booted it again, same problem. It just started doing this yesterday, for what reason I have no idea.

Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? The contest I'm trying to enter has a deadline in less than two weeks and my video isn't done yet! *panic*

Someone help, please... It would be very, vey much appreciated!

Well I would say reinstall, but I am assuming since you didn't mention that you tried it, you dled the trial version off the net and cracked it. I've had a problem similar to that, except for instead of closing, it would always lockup when loading the EPS importer. I reinstalled and it worked like a charm. My problem also was partially because I had a pissy webcam that was screwing up my system.

It's not a trial version. Don't accuse me of that!

I'm going to try re-installing it. Hope it works...

As many of the people wandering these forums may already suspect or know. I am a borderline jerk. So if I offend you, its probably because I was trying to. Besides I don't there is anything wrong with stealing software. I figure, hey eventually computers will be writing the software on the fly so whats the big deal soon enough there won't be microsoft, or adobe, or linux, its all gonna be AI.........

Premonition I think not, but still I speak

If you haven't reinstalled Premiere yet, a few things:

1. Are you running Win98/ME/XP? If so, try "msconfig" (Start/Run/Type msconfig/press Enter), choose selective startup, and uncheck "Load Startup Items". Do the whole Apply, OK thing and reboot, then try loading Premiere again. There may be a process or program in the background that is messing up things.

2. Browse to your Premiere installation directory and try launching the Premiere executable directly.

3. If you're running Win98 or WinME, try a scanreg /restore. Get back to us with results before you do, there are a few things that you need to know about it, if you don't.
I'm out...

It sounds to me like you have a corrupt project file. I've had this problem before and it is unfixable.

However, in Program Files/Adobe/Premiere x.x/ there should be a project archive folder with some copies of previous saves. Try loading those.

You may lose a little, but it's better than a lot.

next time: make more backups with different names.

I tried rebooting it, and everything that you guys mentioned, and nothing worked!

BTW, AbsoluteDestiny, I don't think it's a specific project that's the problem, because no matter which project I try to open, Premiere still just closes right away.

Why?...

OK. This'll work 4 sure. it always has for me! Ok, search your system for Prem60.prf (if you're working on 5.0, it would be Prem50.prf) and once you find it, delete it or remane it. This will cause Premiere to return to its previous state (the state it was in b4 it was in b4 ur problem started) and everything should work and run as smoothly as it did the first time you used it. The only downside is that it erases your preferences, but thats no problem at all! It takes 20secs to personalize the settings!

Hope that works...

All right! It works now! I'm so happy!! :D

Turns out that when I re-installed it, I forgot to re-install the stupid little update that makes Premiere work in XP, so I re-downloaded it from Adobe's website and it's all happy now. :D

Sorry, Akashio, I never got to try your method, but it probably would've worked too. Thanks for the help, everyone, much appreciated.

I'm going to go work on my video like mad now...

:D :D :D
