She is.

However, there is insufficient evidence to support the idea that Rei is a clone of Yui, and the chance of her having anything of Lillith in her is virtually nil since she was probably born before Lillith was discovered.

IF Rei is related to Yui, then she was 4 when Yui died. Only 14-year-olds can pilot Evas, Rei pilots an Eva, therefore she is 14 years old. However, she CANNOT be a pure clone, since her hair and eye colors are different (and there are facial differences; eyes are slightly differently shaped etc.)

No one has any idea whose soul is in Unit 00. Some suspect Naoko Akagi, some say Lillith, some suspect it's an imitation or imprint of Rei's own soul. With no evidence anywhere, no one can say.

Naoko Akagi sees Yui in Rei and becomes jealous of her since it if obvious that she does not have Gendo's love. Shinji is reminded of a mother at some point in the series when he watches Rei.

It is possible that there could have been some genetic manipulation that resulted in the albinism. If Gendo suddenly showed up to work with a little Yui, it would cause quite a disturbance. But a child who resembled Yui (just enough to drive Akagi nuts) would probably not cause as much trouble.

And I personally think that Naoko's soul is in Unit-00. Unit-00 has tried to kill both Rei and Gendo when it went berserk and apparently Naoko scribbled something inside Caspar about Gendo that wasn't very nice and we know that she is jealous of Rei.

We do not know when Rei was "born" as all of her records are erased. We DO know that Kawori was "born" on the day of Second Impact, when Adam was captured (and quite possibly had his soul tranferred to Kaworu). If she is the same age as Shinji, then it is likely that she was created before Yui even died since it was neccessary for her and her clones to grow and develop naturally.

AND if she IS the vessel for Lilith's soul, she must have been "born" on the day of Lilith's capture, which is unknown. Lilith was essential to the Eva's since the LCL is actually it's blood. Adam was essential to the Eva's because the Evas were created from Adam. The two had to be found and captured for the plan to go on. Capturing Adam caused Second Impact. Capturing Lilith was much quieter. When we first see Lilith in the series, we are tricked into thinking it is actually Adam. It isn't until Episode 24 when Kaworu points out that he is floating before a completely different angel then the one he is looking for.

Of course a lot of my conclusions right now are just speculation that makes the most sense to me.

It wasn't that Adam was captured that caused Second Impact, but rather that they tried to harness his power by using the Lance of Longinus (as we discover at the beginning of Death and Rebirth, IIRC). However, I don't remember whether his shrinkage to embryonic form had occurred before, at the hands of the scientists, or whether it was a result of the huge energy displacement that was Second Impact.

Yeah. Good point.

I always just assumed that Second Impact happened while they were trying to shrink it to an embryo.

Actually, they were using the Lance to put human DNA into Adam. Adam sucked it down quite vigorously and that's what caused 2I. The cause of his return to an embryonic state is unknown.

For the record, there is NO form of Albinism that causes blue hair. And contrary to popular myth, most albinos have blue or gray eyes, not pink. All forms of albinism cause blurry vision to some degree because the eyes need melanin to develop correctly. Rei seems to be able to read without glasses, hence the books on the dresser in her room. Rei isn't an albino (though she should be played by one in LAME).

For sure she is an albino, but they made her hair blue-grey instead of white. Maybe to gibe her more "color"....

Nah. Look at her red eyes and her white skin. She is an albino due bad cloning. She eats no meat (maybe she can´t handle it) and she gets hurt very easyly. Maybe she´d get many more sicknesses if she would get older.

Or did anyone forgot what happend to Dolly, the first cloned being ever?

I remember reading somewhere that Rei was given red eyes mainly because she lacked enough other distinctive features, not for any deeper, more meaningful reason...

All of which has squat to do with albinism.

TheMadOne wrote:Or did anyone forgot what happend to Dolly, the first cloned being ever?

Dolly wasn't the "first cloned being ever." That distinction belongs to bacteria. She wasn't even the first mammal to be cloned by humans; that distinction belongs to mice, IIRC. The significant thing about Dolly was that it was the first time we'd successfully cloned anything as large as a sheep.

Getting a kick out of this????

Anyhow, the whole albinism thing matters very little to the story.. so why argue over it, true, rei suffered from a dessease/illness/etc similar to albinism, so what, she had blue hair. arnt people allowed to die their hair??? shit man, minesgreen......... misattos is purple and fuyutski is grey.......... wait, thats old age, nevermind the point is, hair color matters little, and eye colour, well, most anime have at least one or two characters with red eyes ............what was my point again?

i cant spell anymore.....................

the Black Monach is definetly right about one thing, Rei is not albino. There's no sufficient evidence to guess that. Why would they create a new form of albinism? Rei is Rei, I'd say you're going beyond the realm of logical assumption to try and slap medical terms on her when there's obviously no reason to do that, since there's no mystery or oddity that needs to be explained about Rei's looks then why try and find something like that? (BTW that relates to Ockham's Razor, so don't try and tell me that her hair has to be white 'cause of that... whoever it was that did that once :) )

Anway, back to the discussion at hand. Or, if you'd like, we could continiue to talk about Rei and her body, I have nothing against that. :D
