Acceptable Authored Media Formats: DVD±R/RW, S-VCD

So I would assume CD-Rs and CD-RWs are not accepted.

The key word is "authored" which usually means a disc that will play in a normal DVD player. Another clue is that an S-VCD is written on a CD-R (e.g. here).

If you register now before midnight Pacific Standard Time, it's only $40 to reg for all three days.

As for coming just for one day to the convention, read the faq on the Sakura-Con website for the best guidance.

Omigosh... It's been too long since I've posted...

3. Entries may only be submitted on the following traditional media or computer formats.
(Standard NTSC format required):

Acceptable Tape Media Formats (SP speed only): Mini-DV, S-VHS, VHS
Acceptable Authored Media Formats: DVD±R/RW, S-VCD
Acceptable Digital Media Formats: Video Codecs (in order of preference): HuffYUV,
Uncompressed, DV, MPEG-4 (Xvid/DivX), MPEG-2, MPEG-1; Audio Codecs (in order of
preference): PCM, Fixed Bitrate MP3 or MP2; For other codecs, please email your
request to amv@sakuracon.org.

What this means is that if you wish to submit your AMV on videotape, it must be on Mini-DV, S-VHS, or VHS. (Yes, I do have a Betamax deck, but I don't know if it still works...)

If you wish to submit your AMV in an authored format (example, DVD with full menus and such), it must be on DVD±R/RW or S-VCD (no VCD this year).

If you want to take your digital file (of one of the above formats) and send it to me in any way possible (except DLTs please, unless you include the drive), I will accept it...

I didn't feel like I needed to specify floppy, Zip, Jaz, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, carrier pigeon, etc...

This year I'm a lot more flexible than last year, and for the record, the show will be compiled as a MPEG-4 video (PCM audio) and output on a Sigma Designs X-Card. The backup will be on DVD-R (one for each category).

Also, since I just got done with some extremely major family business, I will finally be able to get the submission form posted to the Sakura-Con website ASAP. It's going to be an extremely simple email form and hopefully I'll be able to accept FTP submissions by the end of the month!

Thanks guys for your patience and my appologies for not posting this sooner.

Ugh, I wouldnt recommend mpeg4.

The sigma designs card can only do a bitrate of up to 4000kbps which sounds like enough but really it isnt.

The same card can output mpeg2 at DVD spec, I'd use that.

Yep... I've experimented with mpeg4 a bit on my projection TV. If you play videos at the bit rates most people encode to, it looks real bad in dark and fast action parts...and that's probably what most will submite with if given that as a better option then Mpeg2. I still think Mpeg2 if the best quality you can get using the sigma cards...

please note that I am NOT speaking for Chris but out of experience of having a FTP set up

The Trafic one of those things can generate can anger your ISPs, and slow your wole browsing down, this I experienced on DSL, not everyone has a broadband connection, perhaps Chris does not have the bandwidth to spare, or has an anal ISP. I nearly lost my ISP when they saw thebandwidth I was hogging

yeah, this AMV contest is so "well planned" and has "tons of time and money" going towards it and they can't even afford a goddamn FTP submission server?

Give me a fucking break.
