Romantic anime

Postby LadyPeorth » Sun Aug 25, 2002 9:58 pm

Could anyone recommend a good romantic anime? I am looking for something fairly happy, not overly cutesy or anything, but not one with an unrequited love or where one or both of the lovers die. Kind of along the lines of Ah!Megami-sama/Oh My Goddess! I want to actually have scenes where the lovers are together. Also, I have nothing against homosexuality, but I am looking for an anime with a guy and girl as the lovers. No hentai, either. If anyone has any good recommendations, I would really appreciate if they post them. Thank you, thank you!

I think Kare Kano would be pretty good. I haven't seen much of it, but I do know that it's a romance between a guy and a girl.

hmmm...how stupid of me to not even think of KareKano. I'm not sure if that's exactly what I am looking for but I didn't even think of it. Maybe because I am mostly remembering the characters acting crazy in certain parts. Hopefully the first two dvds, which I ordered weeks ago, will be delivered before I go back to college to so I can watch it when I get back. Thank you. If anyone thinks of any others, please let me know. Thank you again!

Romantic anime is really neat, but comedies will always be the best.

Yes, I am a girl, and I have a reason looking for romantic anime. I want to make a video for my sister and her husband using the first song they danced to as husband and wife. This will be a present to them for their first anniversary. They just got married May 26th, so I have plenty of time. I plan to make the video over X-mas break, I just want to have plenty of time to look at different series

they don't watch it on their own but they think it is interesting. my sister is the one who showed me my first anime, Sailor Moon, when I went to visit her in college. Her husband, I think, has more played anime style video games. They saw me work on my first video and were really interested and my sister loves when she knows someone put a lot of thought and sentimentality into a gift, so I thought this would be a great present for them.

P.S. I love the Sailor Moon manga but I REFUSE to make a Sailor Moon video

Anime like St. Tail and Magic User's Club have strong romantic subplots, but might not be exactly what you're looking for. Maybe the KOR movie, Summer's Beginning, Video Girl Ai, or the two El Hazard OAVs. You might be able to pull something together with Whisper of the Heart or Porco Rosso, but it would be difficult (probably not enough footage in either).

Look into 3x3 Eyes. It's more of a mature love between Yakamo and Pai, similar to what I think you see with Keiichi and Belldandy.
St. Tail is too young and from what I've seen of El Hazard, you're not going to find the "sweet glances" and "secret smiles" that convey the emotions you're probably trying to put into your video.
Anyway, good luck! :)

Gravitation is a good place to start. It's yaoi, but it's not too much; just the perfect amount to add to the plot. Marmalade Boy probably has what you're looking for as well. Not many people have it, though. ...mustn't forget Fuushigi Yuugi

Kanon has a fair amount of romantic elements in it (though it's more about memories). It's also still pretty widely available as fansubs, AFAIK.

Kare Kano is one of teh bestest.. #2 on my all time faves ;)

Really funny, really good story and no-one melts at the end of the series.... ;)

The only problem I can see with Kanon is that the freakin' characters look like they were deformed at birth.
