Been a little while since I've Iron Cheffed. I think the reason the HypeO one didnt go through was just an abismal bit of timing, as everyone seemed to have some major thing happening in there lifeat that very moment.

Anyways, Im in :D

Just some comments on the rules, what sort of output size you looking for? I would recomend keeping the output codec (mpeg1, Mpeg2, Xvid/DivX) the same for both sides to keep it fair... I would assume it's the actual video that is important and not exact quality (so as long as it looks ressonable fine, right?)....

Also, I would assume if your system uses a realtime editing card (DV500, etc) that not an issue as as covered by the varing system speed rule

There isn't any set standard encoding standard. People will encode to whatever they see fit. And as stated in the rules, if their encode looks like utter crap, that will reflect upon the votes of the judges. However, in the end, the actual editting will be the bigger determinant. Meaning, a video that looks absolutely gorgeous but has horrible timing and just retarded scene selection is more likely to lose to a video that has excellent timing, really clever scene selection, yet was encoded at VCD MPEG-1 quality.

Anyways. Glad to see everyone getting interested :D Right now we have 8 official entrants, enough to make 1 bracket. I want to wait and see if we can fill up 2 brackets (16 people). I am going to set the joining deadline at 12/9 (Friday) at Midnight. So, encourage some of your AMV friends to join! If we get to the point where it's Friday and we have 15 people, I don't want to have to drop 7 people, and I'm not giving any by's in this tournament. So let's get some more people in here :) I'm having fun getting all the songs together :D Hehe this is going to be a very interesting turnout.

Assuming we get 16 people, that will be 30 new videos spawned by the end of the tournament. I can't wait to see them!

If number of people permits, do you want to pair up people who have already Iron Cheffed? I know there isnt any particular ranking system, but experience does offer a bit of an advantage, so it may be a bit more fair that way.

Just a random thought :)

The only way I can see it being fair to everyone is if I do random seeding. Now granted, there are bound to be people who have more experience with this than others and would be more likely to fair better. However, think about it this way. If this were the NBA, the #1 ranked team would go against the #16 ranked team in the first round. Thats generally how tournament-style seeding works. So the higher ranked competitors generally have the advantage to begin with. At least this way, it's all be up in the air and it'll be luck of the draw. I don't want there to be any complaints about getting screwed in the seeding process. Basically, it all boils down to, it doesn't matter who you go against. Just, do the better video. Heh :P

Well guys, I'm rounding down the song selection process.. Man.... After many many hours and seriously hundreds of songs sampled, I'm still not totally finished :P I want you guys to keep in mind when choosing your sources, that the music I'm choosing is VEEEERRRY varied in genre. I'm talking about folk, emo, punk, surf, latin dnb, jazz, and the list goes on. Also, every song I'm choosing, does NOT have a video for it listed on the org (as of right now). So, if you have alot of sources at your disposal, try to pick DVDs that feature a wide variety of different moods/scenes. You're more than likely going to have to end up embelishing/taking scenes out of context either way. But, that should make it quite fun :)

Also, I'm trying to choose bands/songs that I think the community would really like but have probably never heard of. One way for me to get new music out to more people :) Something I've always been big about (as witnessed in EK's old thread in Gen Music).

So far we have a grand total of 9 (out of a possible 16) contestants. They are (in order of signing up):

Corran
dokool
Tash
Devolution
SSJVegita0609
Rozard
dcdeveloperx
Wonka
Tom the Fish (Tom, I need your AIM screen name please)

Let's try to get 7 more people by Friday!
