AFO3 AMV Contest Results

Postby Legionair » Mon Aug 19, 2002 7:00 pm

Hello all,

I just stumbled home and it's been a long weekend, but I wanted
to make sure I posted the AMV Contest results as soon as possible.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who participated, everyone
who watched the contest, and everyone who took the time to vote.

I will be posting a more detailed con report (since there was
so many different AMV related things going on). But right now,
I just want to finally get some sleep. Between running the 24
hour AMV Room, organizing the party, setting up the contest,
running two different AMV Panels (and helping to run one Robotech
panel), counting the contest ballots, etc. etc. Well, to put
it simply, I'm totally drained, mentally and physically.

I will also be contacting all of the winners who needed t-shirt
size changes or had to leave early. Just give me a couple of
days to do that.

I also want to send a thanks out to Jared, Ken, and Tom who helped
judge the contest with me. Each judge presented one award and
we had an audience vote for each category.

On Saturday, we screened the contest, the playlist going like
this:

Legionair, let me thank you for a great contest.
It started on time (first time I've seen that).
I liked how the videos were seperated into categories.
I'm not the biggest fan of audience votes, but you ran it very well, with bumpers at the beginning and end of each video and the recap at the end.

On a side note, this was the first time any of my vids won an award, and that was cool. Thanks to the judge who voted for my video.

The contest was very good. Of course, it was my first one so I am not the the best judge of these things. It was good except for the screaming girls. In the back we were thinking about screaming for something non-sailormoon or gundam related.

Your Video Smoked Cloves" Award

"The Wandering Gaijin" Award

"More Snack For the Buck" Award

"Hot Like Wasabi" Award

Well, I could always make assumptions, but what exactly was the criteria for these particular catagories? Just curious :o

According to what they said, aside from the audience voting, each of the four judges chose one video to give an award to, and they made up the names.

The "Your Video Smoked Cloves" award was presented by Jared Silva.

The "Wandering Gaijin" award was presented by Jason Galterio (myself).

The "More Snack for the Buck" award was presented by Ken Nabbe.

The "Hot Like Wasabi" award was presented by Tom Croom.

These were judge's awards, so the criteria was pretty much whatever each judge thought the best video in the contest was. We decided to do it this way instead of having the "Best Editing" or "Best Concept" awards that were given out in year's passed.

When each judge presented their award, they did explain why they picked their video, but I can't remember the reasons at the moment. And I don't want to put words in their mouths either.

I know I picked the Kenshin video because it was a very well done video, for a long form presentation. It also narrowly missed winning the drama category (we're talking less than 8 votes difference).

I thought the first Kenshin one was better.

I liked the Tenchi video. I still haven't seen the series, but that video really made me want to see it.
The pirate video was quite possibly the best one there. Hilarious!
