[speaking through the mind of an annoyed newbie] I have never read the same question so many times, in my life. Now I know why you all hates newbies so much! I'm quite ashamed but thats alright, I have no place in ranking those who are members of this site.

I watched one of my friend's AMVs and saw a few others and thought they were really neat. When I came across this site I wasn't solely looking for specific answers on how to do everything. I just wanted to know what it was about.....educate myself. I've read all the pages on this topic and found them to be of great help if I were to make AMVs in the future.

I would definitely be interested in doing so if I purchased a new computer. To quote someone from the site [I can't remember who it was] a good computer is key. I plan on reading the guides and understanding more about the general idea of an animated music video before I actually attempt to concieve one. Thank you for your.....information. Hopefully whenever my time comes to become a creator of [in time] good work, I'll do better than your average Joe [no affense to the fellow with the nickname: JoesGarage]. I appreciate it thank you a lot...for informing [indirectly] this lame little gal on what some of this stuff is.

I also hope to find anime I like more than what I currently know of, soon enough.

welcome then. Any particular 'newbie questions'?

You can ask, but generally - the guides do a good job of telling you all you need to know, so you may as well read them.

Thank you for asking. See, I'm pretty sure Im quite possibly an example that if you're not being completely annoying with all of your questions. A newbie can be welcomed to the site, in a kind way.
Then again I haven't asked any 'questions' yet. We shall wait and see, once I get my new computer then the test will show the truth

I think people here are much more willing to answer questions if the person asking demonstrates that they are willing to put some effort into reading and attempting to understand the information available here before posting questions, and you seem quite capable and willing to do that.

It's almost a relief when someone new shows up and asks specific, informed questions. Most people are quite happy to answer in those cases.

You may also wish to ask for pointers regarding what features are desirable for a computer intended at least partially for video editing, and again, you can find help here.

I'd be quite willing to provide links to a couple sites that I consider valuable if you wish to increase your knowledge of anime, or computer hardware, but I'd prefer to send those links as a private forum message.
Let me know if you'd like them.

And now for the real reason I'm posting in this thread:

Does your nick reference the anime Key the Metal Idol?
If I correctly presume it does, I just have to say it's very cool. 8)

Wow, [to feel completely inferior] no. Its not referring to any anime related subject. See I would be very interested in educating myself more in the subject of anime. Thats one thing I would like to do before I actually make my first anime music video. If you would still be offerring to send me those links, how would you like to do so? I'll check to see if you have Aol Instant Messenger after I send this post out. I have AIM as well, and if I don't get in touch with you myself, you're free to instant message me under the name of: pinstriped starr. Thank you

2. i also have video clips that i have directed, and performed in, and im willing to see other people creations with my ideas, but the only problem here is i have been in this site 1 hour and i have not read everything as of yet so i dont know where to send the clip to make them available for people to use or if it is allowed on the site. but anyway my things is i wanted to be apart of a group who does the similar things to what i do for fun, hobby and career

Generally, videos are created from a DVD source all the way up. Sometimes, and this is a point of contension among editors, a fansub/raw source of an unlicensed anime may be acceptable.

It's not a law of nature, but this is a sort of 'code of honor' among AMVers. So, work from the very bottom with preferably a DVD source - otherwise, and especially if you take footage from other people's videos (and it's usually easy to tell, since there will be obvious edits within the footage), people will look down on you.

In fact, as someone may less-eloquently put it, taking other people's footage = death

no argument there.

bumpers, logos and studio intros are "for the most part" editors just havnig fun with thier editing tools. some of them are quite long too *cough*Rozard*cough* but really, its up to you. if i had to say one thing that most all of them have in common is a catchy music snippit or sound effects. like any good T.V. commercial jingle, its the song that gets stuck in your head.

Hi,

I've gotten this huge urge to learn how to make these AMVs. I tried to talk myself out of it since I alerady have writing, art, and webdesigning... but I've come to the conclusion that I will not be satisfied unless I can make my own AMVs. I want to be part of it and not just on the outside looking in.

I hate feeling stupid, and it's very overwhelming learning something new, but I'm trying to give a real effort. I don't expect anyone to "hold my hand" but just some overall encouragement and pushing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying to familiarize myself with the terms and reading through the guides to get the gist of what I need to do.

I'm still puzzling how the heck Phade was able to say "Plus, if you have a DVD drive in your computer, capturing is a snap." Where's the "snap" in all that or am I just blind?

I've been pouring over the Ermac and Destiny's guides and feel ready to pull out my hair. Specifically the one of ripping and editing dvd footage. They are very informed and helpful guides, but difficult to follow in some areas. My greatest problem right now is GETTING the footage into Premeire.

Here's what I've done. I downloaded the avmapp, and ripped a Kare Kano DVD through the DVD encryptor that I downloaded. I don't think I had any problems there. I opened the VOB files in DVD2avi and set the options that the guide said. I then saved the project and it finished.

I read the guide to avisynth and understood maybe 50 % of it. I understood as much as to find and open the basic VOB import.avs. I then put MPEG2Source("D:\KareKano3.d2v",cpu=6,interlaced=true) in the body or am I ONLY supposed to put the MPEG2Source("D:\myproject.d2v") in the bod?

I don't quite understand yet where the connection is with MPEG2Source. It's around here that my mind's gotten completely messed up. It didn't really tell me where to save the avisynth file to, so I saved it to the same folder that I put the project in hoping that was right. It then said that I could now load them into programs like premiere. (I downloaded a tryout version for Adobe Premiere Pro - I didn't see an option of 6.5 and didn't know how much of a difference that made) But I still don't get HOW to load them into premiere. So not quite understanding that, I read on for the method of creating clips for source footage....

From the guides advice, I disregarded method one, and since the third one sounded complicated to my already frustrated and tangled little brain, I thought I'd try method two, to edit the footage in premiere. It said I needed a Premiere Import Plugin, but that if I downloaded the avmapp that I don't have to worry about that--but so thats supposed to allow me to open .avs files in premiere. I don't even care about the interlacing stuff at this point, I just want to be able to figure out how to access everything in premeire and take clips.

I'm not sure whether to use "import" or the capture box, though neither that I've tried has it seemed to recognize any avs files. So I've been feeling like I'm at a dead end all morning. For awhile now I've been driving myself crazy reading and rereading the guide to see what I missed and just fooling around and trying to see if anything I tride would let me bring the stuff into premiere.

I decided to look into the third method listed, and comprehended maybe 20% of it. I can't tell if it's what it was talking about, but I ended up opening the project again in the DVD2avi program, and told it to save avi, set something for the HuffYUV. Maybe I ended up doing the method 1 now that I think about it... I'm not really sure. I figured avi was something that I wanted though, so tried that. It just finished making them a minute ago while I've been writing this.. I just tried and am able to import them into premiere. I still can't figure out if this is what I wanted or not. :? What am I doing wrong? Am I on the right track at least.

My mind is growing slowly insane at this point and so anything you can say to comfort it would be very appreciated. Thank you. :)

You typed a lot...

Personally, I prefer method 2 as it is much simpler, in my opinion. After you make the vobs and then the .d2vs with DVD2AVI, you make an .avs file.

or am I ONLY supposed to put the MPEG2Source("D:\myproject.d2v") in the bod?

Yes, that is all you will need. Then, when you do that, you need to import your .avs files. And then you can edit.

You should be able to figure it out from there, it's not too hard. Also, this belongs in Video Software Help, I believe.

Did you remember to change "file type" in the Import box to "AVS Files" or whatever the appropriate option is? I assume you already installed the AVISynth for Premiere plugin.
