I saw these at Circuit City...very expensive on a per-GB basis...$250 for the unit.

Step up to a 2.5" drive. It is still bus powered and you can get upwards of 60GB or 80GB for that price. If you want an expensive 1.8" drive go get an iPod so the money at least goes toward lots of cool features.

I have a 2.5" external case, but no drive to put in it. It's much bulkier than this ARCDrive.

As long as money is not an issue, I think I'd pass on the iPod and go for the Archos AV320. Plays MP3 files and MPEG4 video files on a 3.8" LCD. Doubles as hard disk storage and supports attachments for vid-capture, camera, radio, etc. The local Fry's has them in stock at list.

Still too expensive for me, though; could get a laptop for not much more. And portable DVD players (for DVD-R) are almost in the must-have price range.

Thats pretty damn rediculously expensive. I am lucky nuff to have gotten hooked up with a 160gb USB2.0 external hard drive for $270.

I dont think ill ever need to get a new hd cuz i have a total of 280gb's.
