Hey temjin, I used to listen to the same music as him and thought I would hate the metal I listen to now. Now I listen to nearly everything. But I suppose you know Bucket far far better than I.

Hey Second_Child, you seem to have a fan base growing here :D .

i know him better yes, but, that's not exactly a good thing. i dled some blind guardian, savatage, iced earth, helloween, and a bunch of other metal bands that i saw people recomending to other people on this forum. oh man i couldn't stand em. it's the same deal with all metal bands for me. the instruments, plain and simple, are incredible. but the vocals completely ruin it. despite how awesome the band itself is, the tunes do get rather repetitive. so i just thought i would spare bucket the time of downloading music im pretty sure he'd hate.

and the secondchild RAWKS!

Something a little more challenging...

Postby Anime-Superstar » Mon Aug 19, 2002 5:15 pm

I'm always listening to new stuff but my primary list of listening comes from experience as a DJ...

Lo-Fidelity All-Stars -- "Battleflag"
Public Enemy -- "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos"
Eric B and Rakim -- "Move The Crowd"
Jackmaster Funque -- "Godfather of House Music"
Kid Rock -- "Cowboy"

There's also a lot of really cool straight R&B or Hip-hop material out there which has not been touched very much...

Busta Rhymes -- "Fire It Up"
LL Cool J -- "Goin' Back to Cali"
Missy Elliot -- "The Rain"
En Vogue -- "Never Gonna Get It"

plus there's some interesting old-school material from people like:

Yellow Magic Orchestra
Yes
Peter Gabriel
Earth Wind and Fire (Gotta Getcha Into My Life [Beatles' Cover] is very cool and would make an excellent video)

I'll post more when I can think of the titles.... that's just off the top of my head...

Yeah I can see how the vocals could ruin it for some people. And however hard I try, I can't really think of any whose vocals you might like. Unless you like growling :D . I don't. But if you do you could check out Cradle of Filth, Emperor, Hecate Enthroned, Tristania, Old Man's Child, and tons more.

Actually temjin I remember a band I heard that had music like those bands I named, but vocals like Tool. And the music was clearly different from song to song. But I can't remember the name :( . Oh well I guess it doesn't really matter that much.

Temjins probably right, we usually share the same musical taste, and Secondchild would probably be quite flattered if he saw those posts, But his music rules so he deserves it.

Another route

Id' suggest trekking uot to your local night club when local or otherwise unsigned bands are playing, usually mid-week. Quite often band members will set up a vending table selling their CDs and merchandise when they're not on stage. You can probably get permission to use the music in your videos, since the band is right there to be asked, in exchange for something like ordering information on the video's title card or a link to their website from yours.

Check out the music by Monkey at http://www.monkeyska.com/, but don't tell them I sent you.

Dang, I don't know why I double posted there. Is there a way to fix that? I can't find an edit button.
