Yorokobi I've used Pinnacles program in the past, and I have the new version of studio 8 although since I've invested so much time into premiere that generally I don't use it much.
It's an excellent program. It's a single track editing system, with hundreds of canned transition effects. Studio likes to use a capture board, and can work directly with mpeg 1 and 2 files. You can also export with these formats with no loss in speed as it is usually hardware encoded. Real time previews and transitions are one of the major selling points. If you have an older board, contact pinnacle, they have a buyback/upgrade policy that kicks ass.
Personally I've never really liked the scrubbing system for timing music to video, but your mileage may vary.
I'm also not super fond of the big honkin' interface. It feels like I'm wasting work area somehow.
Hope that helps.
