Problems w/ TMPEnc

Postby vincentpricemil » Tue Aug 20, 2002 10:12 am

I'm having a problem with TMPGEnc. When the video finishes producing, in certain spots the video starts jumping back and forth between frames. I've played with TMPGEnc for a while, but I just cant figure out what's causing it. It's the only problem i have left to work out and it's driving me nuts sitting here with a perfectly good video. Thanks in advance for your help. :)

If you are encoding interlaced stuff then it sounds like you have the field order wrong.

If not, then can you describe your source, codec, frame rate etc?

Yeah, it's interlaced. I couldn't find anything in Ermac's guide that specified using either A or B, so I just went with example pic and used B. Was that a screwup? (sorry if I sound like a moron, this is the 1st time I've used TMPGEnc, i've been using MGI Videowave for everything til this vid)

well, the field order can be different depeding on the source. So just swap it round and you'll be fine.

Also the recent TMPG has a wizard that can detect field order so you might want to try that.

Well it is possible that you've already got the field order wrong in premiere, which can lead to nasty problems. Does the avi have the same issue or is it just the tmpg version?

the wizard is in the File menu, it gives you a choice of encoding preferences etc but when you load the footage it will detect field order.

Whoops! Didnt realize that wizard that opened w/ TMPGEnc was it. Unfortunatly, though, it restricts what you can change in your settings, though. I'm just gonna trust whats there now and give it a try.

As for whether or not it's doing it in the source file, I'm not sure. I exported in Huffyuv to keep the quality of the video at it's highest, and it really isnt playable (christ that thing is huge!) Thank god for a 60 GB HD!

Well, here's what do do.

Load you source footage into the TMPG wizard - see what field order it says.

then load your output footage into it.

If they are different then you know that you have the field order wrong in your premiere settings. You should go back to your premiere export settings and swap it round.

You dont have to use the wizard for everything, but it is handy for field order detection. However, the damage may already be done in premiere, so check your source ad make sure that you process with the same field order in premiere.
