Do you already own Premiere? if not, your best bet is the DV 200. its basically a firewire card, Premiere, and some drivers, for around $230-290.

Cheapest way you'll ever get your hands on Premiere without pirating it.

If you don't have the cash for that, start saving, as in a couple months, they'll probably start shipping Premiere 6.5 with that package instead of 6. (The upgrade to 6.5 will be $150 itself for registered users of 6)

Is there a way for me to get the firewire card without buying all that software.

Yeah, just purchase a Firewire card. They're not terribly expensive -- just type "firewire card" into PriceWatch's search engine and you'll get a lot of hits, a lot of them under $25.

Though, if you want a professional-level editing setup, you might as well save up some money and spring for the whole package. It's well worth it in the end.

yes there is:

on the cheap, check www.pricewatch.com out, search for firewire adapter.

I am also sure that bestbuy or office depot has one, but not quite as cheap.

I'd buy a $20 card now and work with what you have, then when you get a DV200, take it, but your $20 card in the box and sell it on ebay to some sap. Probably want to put some sorta pinnacle sticker on it first...

okay, and no I am not actually suggesting you do the ebay thing, but $20 is better then $250.
