Past AX AMV events had been horrible. Post your complaints.

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime conventions, and for the exchanging of rides to, and rooms at, conventions.

Not true - AX promised to send it out. It never happened. I believe my award was actually stolen.

Yeah, I remember reading on the mailist list that AX had promised Anthony that they would send the awards for him. I don't think it ever happened. :\

I thought "Linking in the Park" happened at Katsucon 2002.

What was "Linking in the Park," for the uninitiated?

Please tell me that's a joke. And that there was a profuse apology from Katsucon after the fact.

If only AX's ballots provided that level of comedy.

I remember that ballot, Victor showed it to me after Katsucon....

I didn't know that some Cons had such un-educated staff members

I'm no tech master, but I still can't even fathom how this was a problem. Don't most contest coordinators finish this stuff AHEAD of time before the convention? I understand if they were under-staffed, but compiling an AMV contest is work you do behind-the-scenes long before the hour of the contest AT the con... :/

Yeah, they probably should. This year they had all of the entry finals on a DVD so it was just menu selection. AX02 what I understand is that they attempted to load all of the entries on a computer, as a continious video. The end result was the video would go forward a frame and then back about 6 frames.

Yeah, there are always problems with ballots, I guess.

This guy is only going to be a volunteer. Believe me, volunteers have nothing to do with the tech or the ballot aspects. It's something we are not involved with. We just show up when the con starts and then do what the staffers say. Griping about such things on this thread doesn't help this guy deal with crowds as a volunteer.

More advice I forgot to mention: Always have a supply of water accesible to you. Whether it be carried or where you can walk to a water fountain.

Oh, I almost forgot. You do know staffing or volunteering for Anime Expo disqualifies you from entering any of contests as a contestant? Like The AMV contest and the cosplay. Another reason why I don't staff or volunteer anyomore. Just making sure.

Nah that wasn't it.

The videos were judged on a PC monitor using the format the person submitted with. Then all the videos were encoded to DV to be played at the con using DV.

Of course they didnt do this the very last minute. They forgot that DV and DVD regularly have opposite field orders. So it's all fucked and the reschedule for the next morning.

So what do they do? The deinterlaced all the videos. In premiere.

Worst. tech. ever.

Last year they had it all sussed though, so as I say it should no longer be a concern.

That a new rule? Cuz comedy winner of 02 was staff (just not the amv staff, I guess) Maybe that issue last year was the reason of that rule hehe.
Course this year, if staff (any staff) was allowed to submit, it would be wrong. Mostly because there was a staff award, and even them not voting still means all your coworkers still do. And staff award was 1/4 the deciding vote on best of show.
