what the hell is that? i dont the cpu heat that much that it melts the whole tower and keboards. lol

If the CPU overheats too much, fire...fire spreads...things melt in it's path...

Oh and that 100+ C wasn't a joke. The new prescott core AVERAGES 103 C and tops around 120 - 130. That's celsious not fahrenheit. Ours averages in the 60's and peak in the 80's.

Then again that's prescott and not the current northwood chips, but Prescott mauls northwood.

The only thing I can disagree with in that listing is the motherboard, I'd rather use an Tyan or a MSI board.

Get the 9200...there's little difference between for example the 9200 or 9600 Pro, or 9700 and 9800 Pro...talking about a 3-4fps difference here (in gaming)

P4's are hotter than Athlon Xps. Even though I'm being biased about this, Athlons give you the best bang for your buck. 2.6Ghz?

http://www.sonicparts.com/applications/ ... u=AMDXP263

$110 for a 2.13Ghz 333Mhz XP 2600.

You're talking to a hardware junky here. I have built systems off more brands of motherboards in the past 8 years than I'd care to count, and Tyans, MSI's and Epox(for the overclocker in all of us) boards have never failed me under normal use. I've had Asus, Abit, Intel, and other boards fry on me for no fucking reason whatsoever, but I've had the MSI board I'm on for almost a year now with no hitches.

Check your prices at http://www.bizrate.com. They compare prices of many online sellers and can calculate tax and shipping into your final cost.

Seagate is about the best HD you can buy, IMO. Western Digital is still a good hard drive at a good price. And I'm still using the Matrox that came with my computer.

If you get the Pioneer DVD burner, you will get Ulead Video Studio 7.0. If you get the TDK, you will get Pinnacle Studio 8. Personally I use and like Video Studio and recommend it over Pinnacle.

I wouldnt go with a p4... you can achieve the same rates (excluding severe high end P4's) for alot cheaper with a AMD.

i have a p4 right now and i dont really like it but its only 1.5ghz it still has trouble with alot of things im looking forward to my amd i orderd a few days ago maybe it will do a better job. but i would assume the best cpu for editing is the 64bit athon though i havent heard much about it and never used on it just seems to be the best for damn near everything

"Claw Hammer" kicks much ass. But I think for now $700 for a CPU is slightly out of what I would consider a sane price-range. Maybe it will do like the "Sledge Hammer" and drop $500 in the course of six months.
