Corbo BASH anyone?

CBB was definitely a whole lot of fun- even for those of us who had statistically no alcohol over the course of the party. Many thanks to those who put it on, it was a great night. :D

From what I've heard, aren't there few enough people at AUSA that you could just rename it to CorboBashCon?

Yes! That would also probably help attract even more people, and I'm sure that URL isn't taken, unlike animeusa.com which is an H-site!

I'll try to write this up as clearly as possible, but considering I'm still in somewhat of a daze after Sunday...well, I'll try my best. I'll use real names in this post because...just because. (I'm lazy)

Thursday:
I had been putting off packing all week long to do trivial things that wouldn't matter in the long run. Mistake. Thursday evening was spent running around like with his hair on fire. So many things needed to get done before guests arrived. I ended getting a good percentage of it all done before Danielle, Ryan, Seamus, and RobBob arrived. They ran out to get some dinner while I finished cleaning out my car and getting my clothes out of the dryer to be packed. James called around 930 saying that he was leaving. The food gatherers ate and then we engaged in some cards while we waited for James & Co. and the Rhode Island people (Brad, Sarah, Kristin, and Jen) to arrive. The RI caravan arrived sometime around 11pm. This was awesome, because it meant we could finally leave and it wasn't midnight yet....No, wait...WHERE THE FUCK IS JAMES? James lives in NJ...so do I...why the fuck wasn't he the first one here. At about 1145pm, James and Jay pulled up to my house...I didn't ask any questions, I just wanted to leave. For some reason we had chosen to stand in the rain while waiting...so we were cold and wet and eager to go.

Friday:
We finally left. Stopped at a cheap gas station on the way out...picked up some beverages, filled the tanks, got the traditional beef jerky for the trip south, and took off down the NJ Turnpike at about midnight listening to The Mars Volta in the downpour rain. Around the time that we hit Maryland, we were having a grand time in the car...Brad and I were cracking jokes and singing Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden...and all was well...until my stomach went BELJWTBWLIUTGYITG#IUG@#&%GGETTOABATHROOMNOWJLEHTIWNT!!!!!11

16 miles until the nearest rest stop....oh fuck. I was in much pain, but luckily my sphincter is strong from...well, it's just strong ok? We got to a rest stop and I...did my thing. At the rest stop while everyone was walking around...Ryan and I spotted the video game room...we jogged over like little kids, only to find that the arm wrestling game was the only game worth playing. I started out and played the 6th, 5th, and 4th hardest opponents to beat...none of them were a problem. Then I did the 2nd, 1st, and 1st again...cake...but at the end there's a strength test...the first time, I got 13th all time, then 5th with the help of RobBob. Brad gave it a go next....man, what a pathetic site...He had a lot of trouble beating his first opponent! Although, it could've been because I kept pushing it the other way :D mwhaahaha. By then all 11 or 12 of us had piled into the little game room. It was time for Brad's strength test. Brad, myself and RobBob almost broke the machine, BUT we came in first place!!! We proceeded to jump up and down cheering and much like the end of Over the Top, I embraced Brad as if he were my son...haha, that was too funny. Overtiredness rules.

We made it to Hsien's place. Tom, Bob, and Mike were already there. Ryan, Tom, Bob, Mike, Brad, and I all partook in Magic and drinking champagne until about 8 in the morning. We then left for the con. Finding parking in Baltimore was insane. It was only 930 in the morning so many people hadn't checked out of the hotels I suppose. I dropped off Danielle, Sarah, and Jen at the con so they could get in line and I went to check in.

Backstory: Back in January I reserved the jazucci room and the adjoined room. I called a week ago to confirm, and I called the night before to ensure early check-in was available. Concierge checked for me and said, yes.

My room wasn't available. I explained to Charles, the Wyndham front desk attendant, the backstory. He told me that the concierge wouldn't have access to that information. I told him she out me on hold while she called to check. He asked me with whom. I said, I had no idea (when I wanted to reply with HOW THE FUCK SHOULD I KNOW?) I gave up and left my cell phone number for them to call when the rooms were available. On the way to the con, I stopped at Burger King with Brad, James, and Kristin to pickup breakfast for those who were still on the reg line. While walking along the outside of the con center, Tom called me and said they were almost inside, that we would have to hurry if we would be able to make it in with them. Standing at the back of the line at this point was incredibly unacceptable to me, so I started to walk very fast. I told Brad to warn the others that they would need to move much faster now. As soon as I saw Tom standing on top of a pillar telling me that they were going in now, I booked....I sprinted to the front of the line at the door, waving the food bags, screaming "FOOOOD, FOOOOD!!!!"...I JUST made it in front of the last person in our party. On the other hand...Brad and Kristin were stuck outside....although they made it in though, without a problem. The reg line, wasn't so bad this year...maybe because we had a ton of people, food, and laughs. After reg, we laid down on the floor at the con center. I waited for a phone call from the hotel. I had not slept in 30 hours at this point...fatigue had started to rear it's ugly head.

I received a call from the hotel about noon saying that only the adjoining room was ready. I went to the front desk while I instructed the other 9 or 10 people with me to go to their cars and start emptying their shit. I went to the front desk and dealt with Anissa, instead of Charles this time. Anissa informed me that I didn't have $1300 to put on my credit card for the two rooms for the weekend. I reply with the polite version of "no fucking shit" and "we're paying cash bitch". She wanted the cash before I even got to the room. I've never been asked for that before. I simply said that, not everyone who was staying with me had arrived, and that they too would need to be present for payment. She accepted my reasoning, BUT changed my reservation temporarily to only the adjoining room and for one evening until we paid. Shit. I thought to myself, just get to the room, call everyone and have them come upstairs and see what we can do about money.

I put the key in the door and opened it to find the SMALLEST hotel room I'd ever seen. It was beautiful, and nicely decorated, but small wasn't what I wanted to see. My rage levels were rising fast. I called everyone up to the room in an urgent manner. People were not happy to see the room as it was. After about 45 minutes, 9 or 10 of the total 19 people that were staying in the two rooms mustered up $1300 bucks. I then disappeared from the room for almost and hour and a half.

I went down to the front desk to pay for the room, and get my jacuzzi room keys...we were praying that it was huge. Charles was back...he took care of me after jamming away at keyboard keys for 15 minutes. He handed keys to room...2730?? How's that possible? We're in 2724...how would 2730 be adjoining? I brought this up to Charles and reminded him of the backstory. He then spent 20 minutes of the phone with someone. Then he handed the phone to me...it was Rita, the woman who had taken the reservation back in January. She claimed that she never claimed the jacuzzi room had a adjoining room...I then dictated to her almost exactly what our conversation was, back in January. Then she remembered setting it all up. I was shocked that she had remembered. She then asked to talk to Charles again. Charles spent another 15 minutes talking to her. He then excused himself to go talk to the manager. Another 10 minutes. He came back and offered me another room...he tried explaining what it was to me, but the noise level in the lobby had significantly increased...I couldn't hear him. I asked to be able to see the room. After 5 minutes of looking for someone to show me the room, and then 5 minutes of asking the manager if he himself could show me the room, Charles and I head up the South Tower to the 26th floor where he opened up the door to the most amazingly large hotel room I had ever seen. Upon entering the LIVING ROOM, there was a nice big couch and 2 or three comfy chairs, a nice big round glass table and a 27" TV with INPUTS!!! Then....a large open space...then FUCKING STAIRS!!??!!? Then more open space, with tables and lamps and then a king size bed, more space, another fucking TV with INPUTS, a bathroom......upstairs.....HOLY SHIT dining room table with 8 chairs, open space, another couch, coffee table, another TV with INPUTS!!, more space, a door out to the 27th floor hallway, another bathroom....all that, and the adjoining room...for the original price we were going to pay. I nearly shit my fucking pants. But I played it cool...and let me tell you, as excited as I was, it wasn't hard to act pretentious and mildly upset after all the inconveniences I had just been put through. We returned to the lobby and he gave me 4 new keys to the villa and 4 to the adjoined room. I returned to the original room where everyone had been waiting. I apologized for the wait, apologized for no jacuzzi room, and played it cool as I lead them down to the villa. I opened the door and watched as each and every one of them came in and shit their pants....we wiped our asses SO MUCH. This was a conquest of mammoth proportions.

I arranged for people to drop their stuff off at the apartment for later in the day and then we were off to Hooters for our traditional meal there. The tradition would be to have mediocre wings and embarass Tom by saying it's his birthday...but man....we got a treat...the ladies came over with not 1, not 2, but 3 hulla hoops. Tom, Hsien, and Jay all got up and attempted to hulla hoop surrounded by numerous big-breasted women singing to them, while the entire restaurant watched in amusement. 1st place award went to Jay for actually having the hulla hoop go around him once or twice before it fell to the ground. 2nd place went to Tom for at least having it hit two hips before it hit the ground. Last place to Hsien, for in his case, he was lucky if the hullahoop even touched him before it fell to the ground.

Some of us retreated back to the hotel room to play some cards and accept various contributors to the party in with their goods. The rest of the day was pretty laid back...so laid back that I can't even remember what the hell we did. Oh yea, I spent 2-3 hours hanging out with Pat and Debra with Andy and Charles (not the attendant) at the con and Burger King. Finally got to sleep about 1am on Saturday morning, having not slept in 41 hours. Woke up Saturday morning, and went to Taco Bell for breakfast/lunch around noon. Went to the dealers room, bought the rest of Kenshin. I now own ALL of it...yay. I played the import Naruto game there and was virtually indestructable...until I got bored of beating those saps and lost. Went to the gaming room and had some fun there, but couldn't stay too long. Eventually we'd need to eat and setup for the party. Hsien got me some Afghan Kabob, which sucked big penis. We chilled in the room while we gradually set up. Setup took forever it seemed, probably just because I was looking forward to the party. 9pm rolled around and we already had a bunch of people coming... it was party time.

The party was a huge fucking hit. So many people having so much fun...we easily had over 100 people in there at once...both floors were packed and the bar was busy. The highlights for me were the group shots of Chopin vodka and the big tequilla shot...and the raffle for the Gamecube I won a couple weeks back...the winner was Will, and the proceeds went to Pat's server fund...that sexy man deserves it. Non-highlights were all the garbage with so few places to put it, Konash trying to fuck up some half asleep person telling him he's too loud at 4am, and our first ejection ever. None of them were big deals though...awesome fucking time, hands down.

The last person left the party at around 5am...cleanup was massive massive massive. We did as much as we could before we all passed out. I woke up about 950am and started packing/cleaning. I woke the others by 1030, b/c checkout was noon. We were cleaning fools and did as much as we could before we left a boatload of food and alcohol behind with a $50 tip for the future cleaner of the room. We stood at the elevator for almost 20 minutes before I got fed up and head down 26 flights of stairs to get to checkout in time.

We packed the cars, and head out of Baltimore to stop back at Hsien's to pick up Ryan's blanky that he left there. After a small stop at Subway, where I was caused to spit my soda everywhere thanks to brad, we journey towards Jersey again. The ride home was a little frustrating but not too bad. I've been extremely tired ever since and my legs have been killing me because of the stairs with the heavy heavy luggage I was carrying.

It's taken me all morning to write this fucker. Thanks to everyone who helped out this weekend. No thanks is needed from me, I just wanted you all to have a good time...and you did...that was all the thanks I needed. You guys rock. Love you, peace out.

Since there are concerns about a late night bash at AWA during the con how about this:

Hold a mini Corbo Bash Thursday night after the AMV dinner.

Obviously this will disclude anyone who won't make it to AWA until Friday or Saturday but there are a lot of people planning on being in town Thursday and going to the dinner. One problem we had with the dinner last year was lack of something to do afterwards. This will take advantage of already having everyone gathered and give us something to do once the restaurant kicks us out for the night. No AWA events will be missed and not a whole lot will be going on Friday until later in the afternoon so sleeping in won't be an issue.

That party would have to be sans Corbo...I'm not arriving until close to midnight I think. :\

Hell, I do 90% of my drinking at AWA at the VAT! Especially with the Friday and Saturday night multi-editor projects and Iron Chef. Everyone's going to be hanging out there anyway, why pack us all into a tiny hotel room? :)

As I recall, Thursday night, there was open alcohol flowing all night while people arrived, said hello to old friends, and watched all of our favorite AMVs on the screen.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

(oh for those wondering, seems i just shifted my knee cap or something, while limping around Sunday it made a nice loud *CRACK* and started feeling 100% better (then again the Turnpyke really sucked on a stick shift)

had allot of fun, and hope i didn't act too much like a fanboy while absolutely inebreated

Hey Ken, yea man, you made a good impression 2 yrs ago, so we kept you in mind. My friend Brian was the guy who helped you out. He's an amazing friend, and it was no problem taking care of you. He said you were an awesome lay...err, guy. And yes, Turnpike = Suckage. Hope to see you at AWA Ken, take it easy.

We hung out at that con for most of it.
