That also won at Akon, I remember.

Actually, it wasn't definite. I was told that Vic's Noir video only lost by 6 or 7 votes.

I'd hate to see it come that close in a audience vote. That's like, I had more friends here than you did close.

So otakon doesn't do best of show?

"let's see...glory of love, the trigun superman video, the top gun one... it's tricky, and lollipops, sunshine and rrrRRRrrr...or whatever its called"

Which would mean DWChang, dokidoki, BogoSort, .Skyfire and Grover should be happy.

So my guesses are:

Best Sentimental:
DWChang - Glory of Love - Escaflowne

Best Drama:
Grover - Searching

Best Action:
.Skyfire - The Need For Speed - Macross Plus et al

Best Upbeat:
BogoSort - It's tricky to make a music video - Various

Best Comedy:
Dokidoki - Lolipops Sunshine and rrrrrRRRRrrr - Card Captor Sakura

I can't swear by the categories though. Nor is this in any way official :)

Sorry about not posting that. I didn't want to say anything until some runner-ups were announced.

Damn Video Room 1 and its horrible audio balance! My dad took us back to the hotel at midnight on Friday night, only halfway through the contest screening in the main events room, and my vid was in the comedy category, so we didn't get to see it. So, we had to come to the second showing in Video 1 on Saturday afternoon, but there wasn't enough freaking treble for us to actually be able to HEAR THE WORDS.

And my vid isn't very funny if you can't hear the words.

But, the videos were very nice. It was my first con, so I might just be in easily-impressed mode, but I personally think they're all worth a look. Does anyone have the list?

I asume your contest list doesn't include the videos on the 6 screening tapes mentioned here. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=18880

There was a consolation tape on saturday night showing a nice roster of videos that almost made it into the contest. Unfortunately I cannot remember all of the videos on there. I do remember Fungie's video was on it, there was a great Wolfwood-Hallalujah drama video and mine was in the comedy section

I'm sure there is a listing somewhere I can find if some people are interested to know what vids are on it.

as for the contest...let's just say.....Baltimore cab companies suck more than anything else on the planet  At least there is the org....

I watched a screening showing and I liked a lot of what I did get to see.

I also learned that amv showing audience don't get a whole lot of jokes...even if it's making fun of them, will cheer like fools when they see Vash.... under any circumstances, and no matter how bad a video is, if other people cheer or sing along, the rest of the herd will mindlessly join in.

I actually didn't think my Utena video was that great ^^;; I do like the use of stills in it though, as I think it gives it something "extra" ^^ I think Misty should've made contest, as her video was quite good. I should have my video online soon, but I'm uploading from 56K so yeah.

And she used Jim's Big Ego! That's worth mad points in my book.

Well, came back from Otakon. Didn't get to make the Corbo Bash so I wasn't able to meet the AMV creators as I'd have liked nor did I see how my video might've been recieved. Got some business contacts made and went to this pretty cool party at Jan Scott Frazier's place. I wonder if my AMV made the consolation tape? Ah well...

This is true. Generally, I only list the videos that actually make it into the formal contest or exhibition. Don't have the time to make a list of videos that are simply entered (i.e. non-finalists). There are far too many and most conventions don't even make that information public. Otakon is one of the rare exceptions.

However, Otakon is also one of the few cons that puts the lists of AMVs on their website. When you go there, click the "History" button. The 2003 results won't be there for awhile (assuming they do it this year).
