What is the best available DVD-Rom that is under a hundred dollars?

Any DVD-ROM will do, get a 16X. Most are made by the same company just repackaged under an OEM name. So it's all the same internals really.

I think I saw on NewEgg.com there was one going for $40.

I really like Toshibas. You should be able to find one for US$30-65.

Get yourself a Lite-On from Newegg.com. Best prices I've seen.

They're inexpensive enough to replace if they go south on ya, and Newegg's return policies are pretty customer-friendly.

I'm planning on building an editing rig with parts purchased exclusively from there--$1300 for a screamingly fast system vs $2400 for a similar--but not exact-system from Dell or Gateway.
