Postby Bebop0083 » Fri Aug 01, 2003 2:28 pm

ok i edit a couple of pictures and i want one of the pictures to behind the other so itll look there in the same picture. kinda like copying and pasting but a little more difficult. i was wondering if layering the pictures would help it or not in photoshop. if so how do you layer in photoshop?

I have no idea of what you are talking about, seriously :?

What do you want to achieve? Picture in picture effect? Compositing two characters? Are we talking about videos? Frames? They are just two static images?

Please explain better your problem...

You can put the two bitmaps in two layers in photoshop and then adjust the position as you want. Just create a new image and then do:

layer -> new -> layer (or CTRL+SHIFT+N)

to create a layer. Once you have the layer you can past your image into it. The Move Tool is used to move the layers around (it will actually move the layer that is selected in the "Layers" toolbar)

Hope this helps

Try with the magic wand or the lasso tool to do it ;)

Use the mask tool, its the easiest and in my opinion the most acuarate.

Bullshit, you're just lazy and don't want to try. You'd rather bug us here asking inane questions that are easily answered in the manual or PREVIOUS THREADS. Your question has been asked millions of times.

It's simple to erase the background from the character. Then overlay him on the background. THIS IS VERY BASIC COMPOSITING. It's VERY TIME CONSUMING. Photoshop, Premiere & After Effects all support Alpha channels. So load up your background, place it on track1, load up your character with his background erased, make sure you saved it as a PSD file, then place him on track2. Setup the Transperancy settings to Alpha Channel. Boom. Done.

Someone suggested the magic wand. Maybe you should LOOK IN THE HELP FILE AND FIND SOME INFORMATION ON IT:

Next time spend more than 2minutes trying to find the answer. You've already asked like 10questions in the past that are BASICS, that ARE COVERED IN DEPTH IN THE MANUAL. We are not YOUR MANUAL.

Well depending on the version (I use 7.0) there should be a tool that kind of resembles an arrow, more or less, in your tool bar to the left. You may have to hunt through the "help" section. Use this to outline the character(s). You can arc the tool by clicking and while holding the primary and dragging in any direction. This will take practice! The once you have the outline complete. Go to you left menu and the "layer" tab. Once you have located this go to "Paths" (should be right next door). Right click on "path 1" and go to "Make selection." Better, faster and far more accurate than the Lasso.

Theere is a complete guid to this at http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/(its in mac so be ready to translate)

Bebop, if you want to make one still image composited into another, I would make a mask. The way that I like to do it is by exporting the background image and the composite image into 2 seperate files. Then in the composite image file choose the Channels tab (or click on Windows and select Channels to open it) and select a new channel. Click on the RGB eye to the left of the name. Finally, use the brush to paint int the selection of the character (keeping in mind that the new channel is selected and the Background Layer is selected.) After having the channel composite image brushed red around the image, click on the little circle in Channel pallete to select the image and copy and paste it into the background, if the wrong selection is made hit Edit>Undo and invert the selection in the Alpha Channel and copy and paste it again. Save the image as a PSD and then flatten it and then save it as a different PSD. Adjust the Alpha channel for each frame if you want to do more compsiting.
Hell is something that parents made up to scare kids, like the Boogie Man or........Micheal Jackson.
