You subbers?

:x

YOU SUBBERS?

I tell you... normally I try not to get involved with the dub/sub thing, but when I see a statement like this, I'll tell you...

After I heard the dub of Trigun, I wished there wasn't a dub

Most people apparently can't tell the difference between good acting and the sound someone makes when they accidentally are hit with a cat...

and since so many dubs are bought regardless of the quality of acting, it sends a strong signal to the studios that they shouldn't waste time trying to make dubs better...since you guys obviously don't care.

Well you ARE a subber....If you werent you wouldnt be acting like this. And your plea will keep falling on Deaf ears...Just beacause you dont like a Dub that doesnt mean the other person wont like it either.Dubs make money here in the Usa....Not subs.So all I gotta say is you dont like dubs..Fine!Buy the HK dvd's we dont need you!

It's not that subbers don't like dubs (well at least not all subbers), it's just that most dubs suck. The translations tend to be bad and they tend to hire bad voice actors.

Dubs make money here in the Usa....Not subs.

If that were the case ADV wouldn't be releasing a sub only DVD of the first two Sailor Moon seasons. Granted, dubs are more approachable to the uninitiated, but that doesn't mean that subs dont' make any money.

I really don't see the whole point to this debate anyway. Most anime that is available in the US is available on a dual-language DVD with removable subtitles. So everyone can be happy.

I prefer subs (as the emotion is usually done MUCH better and you can usually pick up subtlties that any dubbed translation would miss) Then again, I'm in a fansubbing group, so I'm probably a little partial ;)

Oh, as for buying Subs/Dubs: Just buy the DVD! You'll get BOTH. I don't own a single VHS of anime - everything's in DVD

Your argument doesn't make any sense. You recognize that there is a significant demand for subs. Then you go on to imply that the importers receive most of their revenue through dubs, but you don't supply any information supporting that claim.

Only watching subs does not hurt the market. You're still buying the anime (well we'll assume you're actually buying the anime) so it has no effect on overall sales.

It started when UncleMilo took offense to you saying

So Petro, what is your role in this fansubbing group? Are you a translator, timer ...?

I hear sub is better than dub because in dub they change some words that may affect the storyline. And they sell dub and sub dvd's.

Subs are by nature have more accurate translations since they don't have to match the mouth movements. So "beter" probably isn't the best term.

Some people are purests and want more accurate translations (Subs). Some people don't want to read text on their screens and don't mind a (usually, but not always) slight loss in the translation.

With subs you also hear the original voices with the inflections that the director wanted. Both are good. Each is just directed at a different audience.
