I usually don't worry about it too much. Otakon wil always play your videos in the overflow rooms anyways. Even though it's less recogonition than the contest, it's still a showing. One of the reasons why I respect Otakon alot :D

I'm just hoping for a showing at a relatively decent time other than 9am Sunday morning. That's all I ask. LOL

*realizes he'll probably wind up with 10am Sunday morning because of this post. oh well. :( *

Unfortunately, the overflows are less than dignifying. After my first attendance to one, I've decided never to go again. People were literally booing the videos right off the screen.

I actually liked that better ...... my other experience with AN AMV contest was ANime boston ... where every crappy video was cheered for. Made me sick. It is nice to see people's HONEST reaction to a video , no matter how ugly it may be .

I disagree completly. Even the worst video had work put into it. Being honest and being an asshole is not the same thing, and booing someone's work is clearly being on the asshole side, while giving constructive criticism is on the honest side.

Ditto. These clowns and their "honest reactions" insult not only the audience, but also the contest organizers who have put months of their personal time into hosting an entertaining event.

Hmmm...I wasn't actually thinking about you when I wrote that, but I can see it could be read that way. So, apologies if I offended.

All I know is that if I were running a contest, I'd be seriously P.O.'d if this kind of disruption was happening. A well-run contest is not just the responsibility of the staff. It's a community effort; the audience has its part, and the AMV creators, too.

I've been told that if your vid doesn't get shown in the contest it will at least get shown once and they'll send you out an email to let you know when it is. Possibly twice depending on the number of videos.

Well, yeah, but who cares about the general screenings? =P

In all seriousness, though. As much as I just want to get SYLN shown, I wouldn't want it crammed in the middle of all of the entries that didn't make it... everyone'd be sleeping or have left by the time SYLN started playing, knowing my luck =P

Hey now, let's be nice. :(

The general amv screenings are everything we got, including the contest finalists, so it's not like they're without quality amvs.

Plus, with 180+ entries for 2003 there are more good videos than the AMV Contest can accomodate, so the general screenings have got that going for them too.

Plus, if you're an iconoclastic and opinionated anime music video fan (and who isn't?), you can find virtue in many amvs that the philistine, blinkered, pig-ignorant, biased mass audience -- all of them people who wouldn't even recognize qualities like QUALITY and SINCERITY and CREATIVITY and EFFORT if they danced naked on a harpichord in front of them singing 'Happy Days are Here Again' -- have overlooked. :?

Only if one were so inclined, of course.... :)

The question is, can one sit through that many hours of quality and sincerity and creativity and effort dancing naked on a harpichord singing 'Happy Days are Here Again'. 7 tapes even after the DQs, I've heard?

I suppose I've been a bit too down on the general screenings. I keep forgetting that there were 4 tapes other than what we saw at KoP, and undoubtedly those have a lot of amazing entries that may not make the competition. I'm sure the GS won't be that bad at all, but admittedly what I'm looking forward to most is the competition, regardless of whether or not I'm in it.

Speaking of, is it true that the finalist list won't be released until the Thursday of the con?

I should be ready to announce the names of the finalists to the submitters this weekend, probably on Sunday. Doubtlessly, one of them will post it up here in short order.

I realize that everyone is waiting to hear, and I apologize that it's taking me so long to do everthing. It's just that we've got so many amvs this year it takes more time to slog through all the necessary steps.

Nah, we understand. I'd imagine it's pretty hard to organize something liek this with only a few entries and you have a lot more than a few. I'll just sit here patiently and be thankful you're doing all this.
