Just a reminder: AWA has no "trolling" rules for the Pro contest beyond "never been submitted to AWA before". If you like, this could be an opportunity to get a little more exposure for a video you might have sent to one or two other cons this year.

Some people might say that this encourages "trolling", but remember that this is a contestant-judged contest, so that should counteract those concerns.

At any rate, remember that you'll be able to meet the deadline by ftp-ing your entry to us, and sending the contest entry form and blank tapes along afterward. If you have any concerns or questions about lateness, e-mail me at:

gte106k@prism.gatech.edu

and we'll see if something can be worked out.

Oh wow, I was under the impression that it was similar to the Masters entry rules, i.e. the video should have never seen the light of day up until the judging tapes are handed out.

Would it be tacky of me to enter in a video that is pretty obscure as far as downloads/con exposure (it has only been sent to one con, didn’t win anything and, for that matter, was shown with no sound)?

I truely don’t want to be an ass and submit a pre existing video when others are working very hard to turn in originals, but if nobody really has a problem with it, I would love to partake in something that is honest to god peer judged.

Suppose I will enter this year. I doubt mine will get any attention this year though. Hopefully I can get a pretty good one together for the Exposition. *Gets back to editing his video*

Master's enforces the oroginal contesnt... pro suggests it...

some people don't have time to make a video for every contest... besides... the blind judging is in your favor... so its encourgaed in pro...

the form must arive in paper form... can't email a signature yet ^_^

Well, actually you can sign a electronic document... Authorization of a form sighned and FAXED has been accepted for many years in industry. I work as an engineer and our customers FAX us signed drawing authorized by them to do the work... So e-mailing a "fax" is the same idea so in that sence I thing it can be done.... Yes, some documents can't be faxed (lawyer papers, etc), but I don't think this is the case here...

Couple quick notes:

Bogosort: Yeah, feel free to send in a contestant.

The basic video breakdown is like this:

Masters: Person who has won an award elsewhere once makes a brand new video specifically for this contest. Only one award given=grand prize. Only the winner has a garuntee of being shown at the con, but every effort is made to show everything at some point. Judged by me, with tech help from experts.

Pro: The contest you enter if you don't trust our taste. One video per contestant, videos have to be new _to us_ (not submitted to AWA previously). Blind tapes sent off to the contestants to judge. The "blind" part is really easy if you make a new video for the contest, but that's not a requirement. Videos that have been shown at a few other conventions, it's reasonable to assume, might be recognized and the creator remembered by other judges. However, it's assumed that everyone will try to be fair in their judging, and do their best to ignore any bias that might introduce. By the same count, it's assumed that contestants will not announce what their videos are in the forum, and judges won't go searching online trying to figure out who did what. We trust y'all to be fair....especially since it's impossible to police. All winners are assured to be shown during the convention, and a sizeable block of time is set aside for showing all the others (schedule at the moment says on Sun morning-afternoon). I think there's enough time to show 'em all, but can't say yet. We're pretty laid back about order, so just come up and ask when yours will be shown if you want to be in the room at the time. DON'T FORGET TO SEND YOUR FORM AND TAPES. We can't afford to give everyone blank tapes, and we're skittish about the age-permit thing since the Urotsukodoji to "My Heart Will Go On" of last year.

Expo: Traditional hodge-podge contest, invites everyone and all types of video. Again, must be new _to us_. Judged by me and whoever I can tie down for two days to watch them all. Absurdly large limit on amount of videos one person can submit. We garuntee _one_ video will be shown from each group who submits, and will fill the rest of the time with additional submissions we really like. Large block of time scheduled for that purpose. Especially loved by people trying out new stuff, new creators wanting to judge crowd reaction, and people who miss the other deadlines.

Wonka: Go ahead. Uh...I wouldn't post any more details about it though, for the sake of an attempt at "blind" judging.

(Getting slightly worried about building _too_ much hype about AWA....we are a somewhat small convention, 3600 people last year....)

(Erg....under "Masters" it should say "has previously won _at least_ one award at AWA or elsewhere)

Quick Question. I sent my video, it and the text file are uploaded to teh server, the only thing that isn't out right now is the waver form for the pro contest and the tree accompanying videos. Now if worse comes to worse, I can overnight ship those tommorow so they are in your hands. But my question is, the video deadline is the 26th, but is there a bit of leeway for the VHS cassetts and the entry form that come in corresponding to them if the video and its text file are allready in? Thanks.

So if I send the stuff tomorrow(fedex tapes/entry form) I can still upload a video by Saturday?

*was under the impression that everything had to be in your hands by the deadline... that included entry, entry form, and tapes...

*could have been working on my video all this time... I was going to enter it as my Masters entry..

Usually true. We're just being lenient.
