XviD FourCC playback problems

Postby Bushido Philosopher » Mon Jul 21, 2003 6:44 pm

Hi there. I have a problem playing back XviD encodes.

If it was done by XviD but the FourCC was set to DivX it's no problem but when the person encodes it completely XviD then, depending on which player I use, the picture lags or it's scrambled.

Anyone know how I can remedy this?

T_T you've gotta be kidding T_T

hmmm . . I guess all you can do is Install Every Single Xvid Codec Ever Made and that way you should have at least one of those hacks working correctly ^^

Get Nic's Standalone decoder from http://roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml or try the alpha/non-alpha ffdshow filters.

Try using WMP 6.4(mplayer2.exe) or WMP Classic(on doom9.org).

There is the XviD orgnization which is just a source building organization. They don't release binaries since XviD is based off of MPEG4, which I believe is a royalty base intelectual property. Some people out there take the source and make the binaries out of it and post it for "educational purposes". There are I believe atleast three people doing this. Koepi's is known for being the best since he keeps his binaries up to date with the latest sources released from the XviD people.

However, most ALL builds should be completely backwards compatible with earlier or later versions.

I don't know. It may just be a bad encoding job. I mean, it is a fansub by no group that I have ever heard of.

I have all that you suggested already Klinky. Of course I reinstalled but that didn't work. Any more suggestions by chance?

that's incorrect, umaniac has an instant build system pointed at cvs-head which automatically makes a new compile every time the cvs is updated. Thus his are always the most up to date. However, koepi's builds have some features from dev-api-4 back-implemented (trellis quant, that one bframe parameter thing), which is for the most part a good thing. Koepi's latest build gets a higher psnr than umaniac or nic's.

Hey, I was right about the three people :P

What's Koepi talking about on his website :

from:http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml

"XviD is an open source MPEG4 codec for educational purposes only. It is developed by the XviD team.
I don't know if it's illegal to have a binary distribution as well, so with downloading it you agree to keep me free of any legal issues. This binary is really _just for testing the code_ and to improve it, as we can't figure every situation out ourselfes. Thanks for respecting this! :)"

The version of xvid that i have also came with a fourcc changer. With that proggie, you can change the fourcc of your xvid file to divx.
