Star System Problems

Postby Nemoxs » Sun Jul 06, 2003 2:19 pm

This is related to mv's so i figured i'd post it here,

I've been watching people people down star system votes for a while now i've come to the conclusion that star votes are pointless.

Whenever someone is forced to vote for something by star voting, most of the time they've already forgotten the video in the first place and their just voting on something that they've either forgotten or dont care about.

So must of the time they just end up opening the little windows throwing down any number that their mouse clicks and boom.. you're done.. thats a great ratings system ~_~;;.

Normaly I whouldnt complain but i've seen alot of good videos get bad star scores, and it seems to me like it's just a waste of time.

Well if you'd just give it a star right after you watched it, we wouldn't have this problem, would we?

People aren't required to vote on videos that they downloaded with the star system. They can just choose to not vote. Or if they feel like it, they can always redownload the videos, since the star system screen has easy links to them.

Course just as you say there are good videos that receive bad rankings, there are plenty of bad videos that get good rankings. My latest video somehow manages to get marked as one of the top star system vids, and yet it's incredibly terrible and cliched for an amv(by design). There must be a bug in the system somewhere.

That's not really true though. The site is currently designed to stop someone's download ability if they have x number of outstanding star ratings (I think it's like 10 or something). So it does require people to vote and these votes could be haphazard if all someone wants to do is download more videos "now!".

Oh, wacky. Well let me stand corrected. Guess I never hit that issue them since for some reason my internet connection's been rather sucky, and not given me the speeds to download stuff....

Hey,

How do you know that most people do this? From the data that I'm looking at, it looks like most people actually put thought into thier scoring. Are you having trouble remembering a video after you've watched it? There's probably a good chance that the vid wasn't that good then. Brolli411 has the right idea: Score the video right after you've watched it. It makes scoring tons easiler.

Good luck and have fun! ^_^

In my opinion the star rates aren't wrong cuz my videos hav star ratings that I think it's right, even that the higher star rating in my videos it's in a comedy vid with DBZ,but think about how many videos with DBZ are realy funny?I guess that you can count,am I right? And now how many cool DBZ videos you hav seen before ? Can you count? So I don't care about if my "serious" videos hav bad points on star ratings cuz hav too much good videos with DBZ,that even that my "serious" one hav better quality than the funny one ppl not gonna give me high points to the "serious" one cuz it can't compare with videos of ppl that make AMVs for many ,and I just started this year.So don't forget to give YOUR star rating points and maybe someday you'll find the problem with your vids star ratings, remember that the ppl that DL your video don't care about your opinion about your own video.Let's use the star ratings more seriously that is for help ourselves with ppl that DL our vids and don't give any op ^ ^
Nothing usefull here .
