who else is upset by the events of AX 2003

i dont know about you, but screw those ax judges. I was happy with most of the decisions made....until they announced the comedy winner. I loved the chibi things that kill, but, as all who attended will agree, leaves of happaness got a much bigger response and deserved to at the very least be shown again at the masquerade............GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR

My God. Right now I am laboring to control my insane hatred for everything that is you. You represent a small but vocal group of people who were striving to ruin a very good thing.
First off, that damn Yatta video is a troll. How many contests has it won? It should have been disqualified before it got there. I was pleased with how Fanime Con handled the situation: it was booed out of the contest without any awards.
In terms of judging, the only "judged" categories were the staff favorite, I guess. There wasn't a panel of judges at that contest. The 4 awards for categorie were awarded based on the ballots: votes cast by the audience. The group of people who were screaming their heads off at that video was actualy much smaller than they sounded like, because they were mostly screamy fan-girls. The video didn't enjoy nearly enough support to be competative for the award (or at least that's what I told, but Richard, if I'm saying this wrong correct me.)
I want to know what your bases is for making that comment. There weren't any "judges" per se, so why do you think that the audience that voted Chibi Things to the victory was cheated?

It was booed out of the contest at Fanime? Wow. Like, they stopped playing it and moved to the next vid?

But yeah, I agree with Ashton on this one. Leaves of Happaness (aka "that damned Yatta! vid") has had a good run. Let it be.

Well first of all Yatta has won at as many cons as Chibi Things at this point. The difference is they send to almost every single con from 55 voters like portland maine to 3-4k voters like AX. Now they got flamed and (say) they withdrew from some of them, although most of them it was too late to withdraw. I sent to nothing with less than 100 entries and I went to 2 of the 3. I'm also using 2 videos. Now that still makes me a troll to some ppl im sure, but oh well. My complaint with the yatta vid was it continued to send to little cons after winning best of show at other small cons, and showed up and none with only plans on attending otakon. I really didn't have a problem with it being sent to larger cons. Cuz every audience is different, and big ones have big competition.

It wasn't booed at Fanime for trolling, I think it was booed because of the Yatta song, it also got applause when it said the yatta song is the music in the title. It definatly got more applause at AX than at Fanime though. I haven't seen what it was based on, but obviously alot have and love or hate the song. Whether or not they love or hate the video based mostly on the song I don't know. As Ashton said the yatta fans, that screamed loud, did so loudest (even the host decided to say Yatta! later in the contest) That doesn't speak for everyone that just laughed (which I'm told is what comedy should do).

2nd there were a number of different awards there. All catergory award were votes, so was fan fav. (you were there right gamer?) Creators fav was a vote after the contest by creators who entered and were there. Staff Fav was a vote by the staff member that went to a screening. Judges Fav was the favorite picked during the finalist selection. Best of show went to who won the most of the fav awards (judges decide in case of a tie) I was also told Chibi things had 2x the vote over the others soo......

I saw the yatta video at fanime. It was funny, but it didn't even compare to Chibi Things That Kill or Sunshine, Lollipops, and RrrrRRRrrRRrr. Those two were way more funny. It makes sense that Chibi won at AX.

I was really upset that Tim decided not to show at AX or even send the vid. I really wanted to see him!

Hopefully Tim will come back next year since this year went pretty smoothly, and the return of the chair :D

While I am curious if it woulda been a contendah for the Cajones award, or if AX would even show it at all ("ohhh nooo sexual touch!"), I started the video after AX's deadline, so it's sort of a moot point.
At least there was Fanime. :) You going to AWA?

Nappy: While it is good that it went smoothly (really, how could it have been worse?), and it's cool that the chair is back, I guess I'm going to Fanime again next year for Iron Chef, and don't know how many times I wanna make the trek out to the west coast in a year. :|

PS: Congratulations again. :)

To AWA? *sigh*
That depends. Unfortunately it's in the middle of the school year, so I would have to work out some way of leaving Friday night and being back Sunday evening. That would suck, but I might see if there is another alternative.
Regarding return to Fanime, Scott Peterson said that you wouldn't be able to make it to Fanime next year, and he pruposed to us (while we stood in line outside the building waiting for the contest to start) that it would be "SpPanda versus Indifferent Productions" next year. How odd, are you coming?

grr. I told him that Fanime 2004 (current planned date) conflicts with my "home con", but I didn't expressly say I couldn't make it.

Trust me, it ain't easy. Toughest editing session I've ever had. At the same time, definitely A TON of fun. Hopefully one year ;).

BTW not to be rude, but it's not Scott's call or whoever the coordinator will be. It's Quu's. The event is his baby and he makes the decisions as to who is competing. In all actuality, he probably hasn't even thought about who the new challenger will be for both ACen or Fanime (For Tim and I to devour j/k ;)). I have made my own suggestions about Fanime's next year, but....that's a secret ;).

I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding, or a just in case suggestion. We got alot of time before then anyways @_@ And ya it would be Quu's call I'm sure.

As for AX, ya how could it be worse :P Seriously though it went pretty well. The seating took a bit too long, and kinko's or someone messed up the ballot order a bit, but some mistakes are expected.

The dealers room was 10x better this year too. No lines at all, cept before it opened. Huge place, tons of room to move around, take pictures, stand around etc. Last year everyone had to push ppl around :l And fanimes dealers room was so small and not much there either ;_; The company booths were really nice too, bandai's, pioneers etc. Lots of free stuff too XD
