Yes, I'm wondering if this guy realizes that he needs ~$5000 to get a computer that can use all of that fx5800's specs

Dannywilson wrote:By the way Highly recommend "NOT" getting anything ATI. . . Why may you ask? They are not Windows certified and quality is crap. They overload there cards with too many features they run too hot and they always, always end up breaking or having major problems when you get the latest cards. Stick with NVIDIA! Always stable and never have a problem right off the shelf, even when they just came out with them, trust me. I have a Ti 4600 and I've never had a problem yet. The Ti 4600 is just like one of those Pinnacle DV500 capture cards, sometimes better! You can get a Ti 4600 AGP 4x on pricewatch.com for $164! Or Heck! Get a FX5800 top of the line and best on the market for quality at retail for $224!

oh please... I've had 3 radeons without a hassle! your problems are probly either isolated incidents, bad choice of oems (Powercolor...) or.... user error.
And less fanboyishly are you sure that those new GF cards are agp 1.0 compatible? cuz if it's not it could fry the card... also he may not have room or enough power for that huge fan... he'll probly just get a new case (everything) anyway so nevermind  the MX 400 does come in a pci form.

Really the GeforceFX is such a dud. They're running @ 500Mhz with DDR-II memory. Special low-level compression techniques are used to speed this stuff up as well. It's been crammed onto a .13micron and they have to use a massive fan to cool it! Not to mention the numerous delays. All this and it barely keeps pace with the Radeon 9700, which runs around 300Mhz, w/ 300Mhz reg DDR.

the R300/350 cores also support DX9 shaders much better than the nVidia solutions. Since the DX9 was mainly designed around the R300/350 cores. ATI is making a name for itself and nVidia seems to 3dfx'ing itself :P

A 9700 Pro or a 9800 ;o are both good choices.

I only said for klinky to post his bargain specs, I wrote nothing on what craptastic video card he's gonna need... That's all on Edo, the guy who couldnt figure out why his analog tv was capturing at craptastic resolution. Get your fucking quotes right before you post them you asswad.

Let's not worry about the cost. Let's just think of the requirements my computer would need to be able to make a video. More knowledge means It would cause me to make less mistakes. I wonder if Edo has made a list for me yet...

Honestly kid, I made Not Another One on a shitty 533 with only slighly better specs than what you have. It was not fun. What you most likely need is a complete overhaul, or a new system altogether. You can buy the parts, a book on how to assemble computers(Hint: It's NOT hard to assemble nowadays), and a decent operating system for less than 1000 dollars. This computer will be able to handle almost anything you throw at it, and come out swinging.

But you don't want a computer that really does swing. It might come home from a LAN party with a virus that gives you grief :D .

Fuck shit.

hahaha. hey Danny. Can you give me a few sources of places that I can get parts and stuff for less then a thousand bucks? To tell the truth, I'm now thinking of just waiting till next year. I'll probly have enough money by then and I'll also have done enough research as to what parts I need and what I should get. :?

Pricewatch usually has the best prices for parts from various retailers.

I've heard Newegg.com is pretty good, too.

The system I listed in there is about what you need. Pricewatch is good and so is NewEgg as Kthulhu stated. NewEgg is a bit spendy on the memory side of things. Most places on Pricewatch are trustworthy. I've never gotten jipped or mislead from any of them.

Thanks Klinky. That's a really good set up. I'll probly get a diff dvd drive and a better video card? I'm just gonna change a few things around for my benifit. I'll see what happens in a year. The list really helps a lot. Thanks a lot
