Questions I'll ask for others:

Are you capable of handling several kinds of codecs and formats, like AVI, MPEG, DivX and XviD, WMV, even RM? Is your computer even capable of displaying hi-res videos? What if someone sends you a VCD or DVD-R?

How good is this hosting? Is it the sort of host that will either get its bandwidth maxed out or yanked by the provider within 48 hours, due to excessive downloading?

How do we know you're not just trolling for AMVs in an effort to have a ready-made collection come winging your way?

This contest has to be one of the worst contests I have ever seen. First you put extreme restrictions on what kind of video can be sent in then say that you must send it in cd form. If this contest wasn't so laughibly funny I would probably be flaming you right now . . . .oh wait.

Well, it's been a while since I exposed myself to a computer with windows on it, but:

Excel: AFAIK excel can embed any OLE-object, and therefore also a mediaplayer. If you don't feel like cheating, doesn't excel come with reasonably complete VB-support, and some sort of slideshow-ish video should be easy enough to make with that..

PDF: I've never checked this, but isn't PDF basically compressed postscript? And since postscript is turing-complete, it should be quite possible in to do the video part in it, you just have to start with something like "start your mp3 on the third flash. *blink* *blink* *BLINK*". =)

Wow! Take it easy.

 I'm sure we've all had firsts. Take it easy guys, at least he had the balls to consider hosting a contest. This kid has only made one AMV he's not a big shot like you think you are. Ohh, if you don't like the rules, then blow it out your ass and move on. Keep the forum nice for everyone, not just self proclaimed AMV masters like yourselves.

Never mind Excel and PDF--what about txt?

A text file AMV? That'd be a hoot.

That's easy enough, given a reasonably slow display device. Back in the day of serial terminals (you should be old enough to have a reasonable chance to remember?) there were lots of ANSI animations, and ASCII too I suppose.. (I mean just text-screens with a form-feed between them, though using some positioning codes makes for far better animations.)

If you want, I could make an ANSI AMV, but it'd need a program that displays it timed to be much use.. (You'd play the music in a separate program of course.) Indeed using AAlib you can convert existing AMVs easily, though it is of course much more impressive to do it by hand (better looking too, if done by someone halfway competent). I'd be willing to do a really short one by hand..

(And this is getting waay off topic, but who can blame us? Maybe I can suggest an ANSI AMV contest to make it more on topic..)
