I don't want to be hated, I want to be heard!

Yeah, seriously, I wasn't saying *you* since I haven't noticed you giving personal one-on-one flames to anyone in particular (yes, I'm stumped for ideas so I've been doing extensive surfing and post-reading, which is the cause of this thread, and I've noted the main ones, you weren't among them - I hadn't even caught the thread pointed out and linked to here until earlier).

And I need to qualify my argument anyway, since one of the supposed 'noobies' I was feeling sorry for turns out to be a member from back in 2002, an older member than even the people flaming and calling him a noobie. I guess time doesn't determine whether your a noob or not, it's whether you do something stupid or not - if you do you're a noob, if you don't you aren't. See? My mistake.

Overall, people do get annoyed with constant question asking over easily answered things. Nobody truly wants to be in the company of a sheer dumbass, but there tend to be many of them. I'm not quite sure what exactly sparked your ranting fire, but I'm sure it's justified in your mind. Just also realise that a flamed noob will stick out more than just a normal joining member. That being said, I see a lot of those who get ridiculed sticking around because they've probably found their nitch. And as for the arguing, most "veterans" flame the newcomers out of entertainment, not malice or hatred, and if the two opposing members rub the wrong way an argument ensues, but that's nothing special. People will argue, veteran or not, it's guaranteed. I was not assaulted with a barrage of flames as a newcomer because I tried to refrain from making myself out to be a dumbass (right off the bat, anyways.)

Depending on your definition of a 'Newb,' that's a dangerous question to ask. If Newbs are new-comers, then you were one once. In which case, asking what's right with them really begs a different question altogether.
8)

As for 'where are they coming from,' well, where did you come from when you joined? *Why* now, in such a rush is a better question, and one I can answer. The Carrot. They have a free download and upload host now, for anyone who joins. A guaranteed source for downloading (unlike direct links which go out all the time, or messy indirect links) really draws people in. And knowing they'll have a place to put their amvs encourages poor people to join and make amvs.

You've already outlived me, I've been dead for years. And gomen! for reading too deeply. I tend to be too serious, even when I'm being sarcastic or joking. I blame the constant caffeine & nicotine overdosage.

I'm in the same dealy as superspike there. I never got flamed for being a noob, cause I never did anything really stupid. Or if I did do something stupid, I'm man enough to admit my fault instead of trying to get into a flame war (although I do enjoy a heated debate sometimes  ).
I read the video help forums a lot, and usually try to take the time to answer the questions that I can, even though its painfully difficult sometimes... and sometimes they just ask such freaking stupid questions, that I just gotta totally ignore it. I think it would be nice if more people did that... just ignore them. I mean, if you can offer to them some constructive critisisms, then feel free to flame if you want. But if you do nothing but flame, and offer no help, then your post was just as worthless as theirs was.
My 2 cents.

Flames are useless, but caffeine could be a cause, giving far too much energy. No more softdrinks for flamers, they should all be dosed with the hard stuff - JD will knock 'em out quickly enough. And wonderfully ironic, it'll burn all the way down.

i'll admit it. i'm new. i've been flamed for a couple of things (including necroposting). and most importantly, I DON'T CARE. The way i look at flaming is that if something intelegent is said, it's not really a flame, if the person is yelling at you simply for the sake of yelling at you what's the point in getting mad? i mean really, most of the time it's a joke for the flamer and if he/she really has a problem with your post, they should make it clear in their ensuing rant. But maybe that's just me cause i stay with the "general off topic", "way off topic", and "it's all about me" areas of the forum, rarely venturing elsewhere unless i have something serious to ask.

I'm surprised to find it still hanging around. course i guess i'm not very observant, as i just now saw the rest of the pages of threads. anyways, i'm posing here simply cause this is MY rant thread and so i shall rant here because i can. did that make any sense to anyone? I suppose it should since it does. Anyways, i guess if i'm going to spam a thread it might as well be my own. Oh, and i still don't have any opinions on my poem, just a title. So if you're going to post something on this tread put an opinion in it, ok? oh who am i kidding, i'd just be surprised if you post something. SO POST SOMETHING GOSH DARN YOU!!! but don't feel obligated to. if this thread gets spammed any more, i'd like to do it, it is my thread. but you can if you want to, at least make it intelegent, ok? anyways, i'm just rambling so i'll shut up now.

Arigatomyna wrote:First, I hate the word 'noobie' and 'noobs' but for the sake of getting along, I'll use it. And as the subject asks, what's wrong with noobies? Why is there so much hostility toward them? Why is it so important that a member of this forum have been a member for a long time, or, "a LOT longer than you!!!" as one non-noob put it. What's the deal? It reminds me of hazing rituals that are meant to scar beginners to the point that only the most jaded (and hopefully the strongest) will survive and remain to join the rest of the 'non-noob' community. Noobies are flamed, cussed out, treated like idiots for asking beginning questions (which even non-noobs must have wondered when they first started). Their opinions are dismissed unless they're so meek about it they scrape the ground and try to agree with what the non-noobs are saying. And even then they're flamed for 'trying to act smart.' Why? Is it just ritual? It seems to be meant to turn people away, or to teach the pathetic disgusting little noobies to know their places - beneath anyone who's so good as to have been a member longer than them.

With the influx since the Carrot, there have been a lot of noobs flooding here (yes, I was watching the site for a lot longer than I've been a member - I'm sure other noobies have as well). I'm not trying to start trouble with the all-powerful non-noobs, but watching new members get flamed, attacked, treated like worse than refuge is disturbing. So I wonder if it bothers anyone else - not including the non-noobs who are just doing their duty of hazing those with smaller intelligences than their own. See? I worship all non-noobs, I'm not a trouble-maker, and I hope no one thinks I mean to lower the importance of the dedicated, long-standing members. I'm merely curious as to where all the hostility comes from. I understand it can be irritating to see the same questions asked, to see people who don't know the rules not following the rules (since they don't know them, it's obvious why they aren't following them, but that's not the point). I know it's infuriating to see a noobie talk back to a hostile, bold letters in triple-sized font non-noob. I know, but here it seems people (non-noobs since noobies are not treated at a level high enough to be considered thinking-feeling people) - people are encouraged to be harsh, they're applauded when they cuss out a noobie, they're joined in flock by non-noobs who cheer and mark their hit lists and generally celebrate the mutilation of yet another pathetic noobie. To be repetitive, I ask why?

After I read your post I threw up my fist and hooted! Thanx for standing up for the new guys! :D
