English-language Japanese songs

Postby Bushido Philosopher » Wed May 21, 2003 6:47 pm

Oddly enough, I like songs in English that are sung or at least conceived by a Japanese person.

Examples of this would be like ZONE OF THE ENDERS: ANUBIS OST - Beyond the Bounds, Xenosaga OST - Pain, Utada Hikaru - Simple and Clean, Phantom of Inferno - Promise Land......hey, just noticed all of them are game OSTs....hehe, must be coincidence.

Anyway, anyone have suggestions on these kinds of songs?

The opening song to Lain is in English and 'Key of the Twighlight' from .hack//sign is too. Both of them are pretty.

There is a cute song at the end of Slayers Try (ep 78) that is sung by the actress for Filia...it's not entirely coherent but it's pretty.

Oblivion (Gundam 0083)

theres a couple of other songs but i cant think of them right now. Isnt it weird that both Cowboy Bebop and Initial D have mostly english songs??

Yes, you're mistaken. Waiting So Long was written and performed by Silver Fins.

well, not really if you think about it. i mean, if u look at the modern Japanese language, they really have tons of English-based words. besides, many over there also awknoledge that we have the same interests: entertainment, foods, electronics, etc.

As for Cowboy Bebop, blues came from America originally, so why not have it in english? And Initial D, we have drifters, racers, and speed-demons all over this country (or at least CA, from where I'm from). I think the directors want to try to get as close to the original American feeling of these things....Too bad that idea doesn't go the other way (stupid American guys with their censoring and cutting).

Opera meets techno/new age songs

Postby Bushido Philosopher » Tue May 27, 2003 8:37 pm

Hey everyone. Was wondering if anyone knew any good opera and techno or new age songs.

I was listening to Burly Brawl by Juno Reactor vs. Don Davis from the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack and was quite intrigued by it. Was wondering what other songs I could listen to for this type of music.
